SAFETY RULES
Safety Rules
1. The fencing floor is a restricted area and only fencers may be on it. Non - participants must stay in t he observation/waiting area.
2. Fencing weapons must be carried point down or in a fencing bag.
3. No type of movement with the blade is allowed if any person is within 6 feet of action and unmasked.
4. Warm up stretches are required before a lesson or practice.
5. Ma sk, glove, fencing jacket, knickers , plastron, and clean athletic shoes (w/o d u ct tape) must be worn when fencing .
6. Walking or standing close to fencers that are fencing when blade points are raised or blades are in motion is prohibited.
7. Unsportsmanlike beh avior and rough play or actions, whether intentional or not, are prohibited.
8. All fencers have a duty to report any unsafe area s and/or unsafe activities to the GFA (Gutkovskiy Fencing Academy) staff.
9. Any illness, injury or the taking of medication must be reported to the instructor before lessons or practice.
10. No participation is allowed while under the influence of medicines or chemicals which cause drowsiness or disorientation.
11. Any person not abiding by GFA rules may be subject to expulsion.
12. Gym equip ment area is restricted for members 12 years and older , and the members must be in the A dvanced class to use the equipment.
13. You must bring your own fencing equipment to the I ntermediate and A dvanced classes.
14. A par ent or guardian must stay at the club dur ing an individual lesson.
15. All fencers and their family members and guests must trea t GFA staff and fellow members respectfully. The use of foul language towards t he staff and other club members or unsportsmanlike conduct will result in expulsion from the club without a membership refund.
Legal Notices
1. You affirm that you are in good physical condition and have no physical or mental health problems that will preclude or inhibit your participation in fencing activities.
2. You hereby give consent to GFA and its representatives to obtain medical care at your expense from any physicians, hospitals or clinics for you and/or the above-mentioned fencing student for any injury or illness that may arise during any activities associated with GFA.
GFA Membership Policies
1. Annual Memberships at GFA run from September 1 – August 31 of the following calendar year.
2. To be considered a GFA member, you must be a paying member on an annual or monthly basis.
3. GFA membership fee is for the Advanced class students only.
4. A GFA member also must list GFA as their primary club on their United States Fencing Association Membership form as well as on the www.askfred.net entries.
5. Intermediate and Advanced class students must have current USA Fencing Association membership. https://member.usafencing.org/signup
6. Every GFA member must represent GFA at any USFA-sanctioned competition that they participate in and wear their GFA patch on their uniform. The GFA patch must either be on the shoulder of their non-dominant arm sleeve or on the side of their thigh (back leg).
7. One GFA logo patch is available per member free of charge. Extra patches are available for a fee.
8. All members who do not abide by membership policies #3 and #4 are subject to paying the non-member fee structure.
9. If two GFA members have the unfortunate situation of having to fence against each other at a competition, they cannot be coached.
Payment Policies
1. Monthly package and membership fees are non-refundable or transferable. Use of portions of the fees to any other services is not allowed.
2. Group class fee is waived after starting freshmen year for college students.
3. All returned check fees are paid by the owner of the check.
4. Coaching fees will be invoiced after confirmation of request.
5. Personal checks, bank checks, cash and credit cards are accepted. Note: credit cards require an additional service fee.
GFA Club Policies
1. All fencers must abide by GFA’s safety rules.
2. During cross training, warm-ups and private lessons, only knickers, sweatpants or medium to long length shorts are considered acceptable sportswear for athletes’ legs.
3. Any damage incurred to GFA equipment, GFA owned or rented facilities or fixtures due to negligence, will be the financial responsibility of the person or persons that caused the damage.
4. No free fencing is allowed during active group class sessions.
5. Fencers must leave the facility after conclusion of the Beginner’s and Intermediate classes.
6. Coaching at the club is only from GFA staff.
Cancellation Policies
1. 24-hour advance notice is required for all cancellations, and you must schedule a substitute time with the coach. Otherwise, you will be charged for the missed lesson.
2. Cancellation with less than 24 hours notice is allowed for medical reasons only and you must arrange a substitute time within the same week. Otherwise, you will be charged for the missed lesson.

ALL club members and Non members who appear in photos published on the website, flyers, postcard, and/or newspapers MUST have a signed consent form on file.
Permission is hereby granted for the Gutkovskiy Fencing Academy (GFA) to publish photo(s) including the following person First Name* Last Name* on the GFA Website, post card, flyer and/or in publicity articles for the purposes of promoting /publicizing GFA events and activities.
Photos are to be used for NO other purpose by the GFA without specific written permission.
