Details: Part time to Full time (20-40 hrs/week) | $21-$24/Hr including tips; front and back of house pools tips; Base rate without tips during training (36 hours): $14.35/Hr
The cook works in alignment with the Head Chef to supervise all food preparation activities and ensure that high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained. The Line/Prep Cook’s responsibilities include assisting the Head Chef in preparing entrées, maintaining suitable portion sizes, and ensuring that food items are stored at the correct temperatures.
To be successful as a Line/Prep Cook, you should be knowledgeable of various cooking techniques and have a passion for food. Ultimately, an exceptional Line/Prep Cook should be able to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills. The successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to our team, guest satisfaction, and goals.
Responsibilities
- Assisting in preparing meal ingredients, which includes washing, peeling, cutting, and slicing fruits and vegetables as well as marinating meats.
- Preparing soups, salads, and sauces as instructed by the Head Chef.
- Plating and garnishing meal items in accordance with the instructions provided by the Head Chef.
- Ensuring that all given tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Ensuring that all cooking stations are adequately stocked with the necessary meal ingredients and cooking equipment.
- Ensuring that all cooking stations and kitchen surfaces are cleaned and disinfected before and after each shift.
- Adhering to standard food rotation practices to reduce food wastage and minimize the risk of contamination.
- Assessing the quality of delivered food supplies to ensure that it meets restaurant standards.
- Helps in overseeing the kitchen cleanliness and food prep in alignment with the Head Chef including current staff and new hires.
- Will be fully cross trained in each kitchen station with an emphasis on understanding each role and how to cross train new staff.
- Actively seeks to learn and sets goals for further personal & career development.
- Actively offers ideas on how to improve teamwork and workflow.
- Can proactively resolve staff or guest complaints and maintain a positive, friendly demeanor.
- Demonstrates flexibility and malleability when engaging with people of different communication styles.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year employment in a kitchen as a prep cook, line cook, or chef but exceptions will be made for suitable candidates with less than the minimum requirement.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule potentially including holidays and weekends.
- Will be "On Call" for trainings and continuing education.
- Must be professional, self-motivated and able to receive/deliver positive/constructive feedback.
- Leads by example, demonstrates teamwork, and promotes a solution based positive work environment.
- A current food handler's certification.
- Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations.
