WHAT IS WHALE SCOUT? Whale Scout is a local non-profit that leads land based whale watching experiences. Their mission is to channel people’s interest and passion about whales into volunteer habitat restoration projects that help support healthy salmon populations and protect the primary food source of the struggling Puget Sound orca whales.
WHAT WILL I BE DOING? Whale Scout staff will teach the adult volunteers how to remove invasive blackberry canes. Younger volunteers will use natural woodchips to deeply mulch areas along the Sammamish River, preventing blackberry vine re-growth. Near the end of the work party, there will be storytime and field games for kids.
