RULES & REGULATIONS
The Sojourn to the Past journey you have chosen to attend offers many unique opportunities to form new friendships and to meet the challenges of combating racism and promoting tolerance in our society.
Staff, chaperones, parents, students, alumni and other adults are expected to support one another with genuine respect throughout the trip. As a participant it is your responsibility to learn as much as you can on the trip, and to make the journey a positive and enjoyable experience for yourself, fellow students, chaperones and staff. All participants are expected to practice high standards of conduct and to accept personal responsibility for their actions. You are expected to be honest, courteous and considerate to others. This includes those in your group, as well as others we may interact with, such as speakers, guides, bus drivers, and restaurant and hotel staff.
Our goal is to make this journey an educational, safe, and enjoyable experience for everyone. We ask you to agree and adhere to the following rules in order to help us meet this goal.
• All participants are to follow directions, rules and regulations established by the staff and chaperones prior to and during the trip.
• All people under 21 will not be involved in any way with smoking or alcohol. All participants will not engage in the use of illegal drugs, vandalism, theft or any other type of behavior that is judged by staff to be illegal or detrimental to the health, well-being, and safety of the individual or group.
• Participants who engage in illegal acts will be reported to the police and subject to arrest.
• All students are NOT permitted to bring their cell phones on this trip. The staff will make their cell phones available should there be a need to make an urgent call.
• Students are not allowed to bring radios, MP3 players, iPods, PSPs, Laptops or any hand held video games or other devices for listening to music on this trip. Your full concentration is absolutely essential.
• Students are not allowed to bring video cameras, but are allowed to bring still cameras. However, they must abide with picture taking policies specified by the staff.
• Participants are responsible for the security of their own property. Sojourn to the Past will not replace lost or stolen items or money. Participants are encouraged to purchase travel insurance.
• Participants are required to abide by the dress code specified by the staff
• Sojourn will share the curfew policy on the trip. No student is allowed outside their room after curfew.
• Students are not allowed to use pools, hot tubs, saunas, or workout facility at any of the hotels.
• Students must sleep in their assigned hotel rooms each night. There will be bed checks.
No one is allowed in any other room but their own. Participants breaking this rule will be sent home immediately.
Students can hangout in hotel lobby or conference rooms prior to curfew.
• Students may never leave a hotel, restaurant or other facility unless accompanied by a Sojourn staff member.
• Participants will actively participate in all journey activities, and will show respect and consideration for others and their property at all times.
If any participants should violate any of these rules, he/she may be sent home immediately at the sole discretion of the Sojourn staff. In such a case, the parents, guardians or individuals will be responsible for their expense home.
Covid Policy:
1. If a participant is diagnosed with COVID-19 prior to travel and with insufficient time to meet quarantine requirements, Sojourn will refund all portions of the cost that are refundable to Sojourn. For example, if airfare has been paid and is nonrefundable, then that portion will not be refunded.
2. If a traveler is diagnosed with COVID-19 while on the trip, they (the parents/guardians) will assume the cost and responsibility of caring for the participant as well as transportation back to their home.
