Parent/carer views of Neurodiversity for the local offer
At Brent, we are creating a 'Neurodiversity' section on the local offer to help parents who have concerns about their child. This section will offer advice, help and support. We want parent/carer views to be at the forefront of this page. We have some questions for parents and would find your responses valuable.
What is neurodiversity?
... Some people may experience differences with recognising and processing emotions, sensory integration, learning ability, anxiety, and memory differently. The term Neurodiverse usually refers to a range of differences that can include Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD), Speech, language and communication, Social communication and interaction, Motor coordination differences, Specific learning difficulties and Tourette’s Syndrome.
Please tell us the strengths of your child or young person with neurodiversity? (Please use 1 word for each strength, for example: Hardworking, creative). This refers to any words you would use to describe your child positively.
Please list tips or pieces of advice you would give to other parents/carers who have new concerns about their child or for parents/carers that may need support. (Examples: Join parent support groups, talk to family and friends, keep a diary of important meetings or appointments, prepare questions before a meeting about your child)
Lastly, Brent are creating an 'all about me' video where parents/carers and children and young people will highlight their personal interests, strengths and challenges. We aim to protect the identity of all involved in the video to maintain privacy. We would just need you to record using some guidelines that we will give you. If you are interested or want to find out more information, please provide your email address.
