2023 Scholarship Guidelines
Purpose:
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide an opportunity for high school graduates to complete the Electrical Lineworker Program (ELP) at the Northwest Lineman College (NLC) campus in Meridian, Idaho.
Applicant Eligibility:
- Must be a graduating senior.
- Must submit a completed application packet.
- Must be accepted into the NLC ELP program.
Amount and Use:
- Three scholarships are available. Probst Electric will be awarding two scholarships, and Brink Constructors will be awarding one scholarship. Each scholarship will cover full tuition, application fees, lab fees, CDL costs, NCCCO Crane Certification, and tools for the 15-week ELP ($23,000 value). The applicant will be responsible for all other expenses for the program, such as housing and living expenses.
- The Brink Constructors scholarship is funded by the Frank Brink Memorial Scholarship fund. Frank Brink was the founder of Brink Constructors and believed heavily in the value of a career in the trades. - Scholarship funds must be applied to the NLC ELP term that begins in the same calendar year of the Applicant’s high school graduation date. Scholarship funds may not be deferred beyond this time frame.
- Scholarship funds will not be issued directly to Applicant but will be applied toward Applicant’s tuition and tool balance owed.
- After graduation from the NLC ELP program, applicants must commit to two years of employment with the awarding Quanta operating unit.
- If Applicant does not fulfill the terms of the scholarship, including the two-year employment commitment, Applicant will be responsible for reimbursing the awarding Quanta operating unit the full scholarship amount.
Selection Criteria:
- Minimum Cumulative High School GPA (2.0).
- Letter (typed, double spaced, Times New Roman font, 12-point font, 1” margins, 300 words or less) written by Applicant addressing the following: (a) why he/she would like to pursue a career in linework, (b) how this scholarship will help, and (c) how he/she will pay for living expenses and additional costs while at NLC.
- Two reference letters from a school counselor, principal, teacher, or coach.
Scholarship Selection Committee:
The selection of candidates will be determined by the Scholarship Committee.
Application Packet Components:
- Completed online application form.
- Letter (typed, double spaced, Times New Roman font, 12-point font, 1” margins, 300 words or less) written by Applicant addressing the following: (a) why he/she would like to pursue a career in linework, (b) how this scholarship will help, and (c) how he/she will pay for living expenses and additional costs while at NLC. 5. Proof of acceptance into the NLC ELP for the calendar year in which Applicant will graduate high school. Proof of acceptance will be submitted to blmitchell@quantaservices.com.
Deadline and Submission Information:
- February 15, 2023 deadline.
- Completed application packets, including the letter and proof of acceptance, shall be e-mailed as one .pdf document to the Scholarship Committee at blmitchell@quantaservices.com.
- Reference letters shall be submitted to blmitchell@quantaservices.com by the author. Reference letters submitted by the Applicant will not be accepted, and the packet will be incomplete.
