  • Basic Hunter Education Course - Blended Learning Format

  • In this format, students study the course material ahead of time to prepare for in-class activities with the instructor and peers. 

    Students first complete the Massachusetts Hunter study guide on their own before attending the Field Day for hands-on practice and to take the final exam.  If you have any questions, please call the Hunter Education program at (508) 389-7820.

  • Step 2: Show proof of completing the online MA Hunter study guide. Upload a file of your completed coursework

  • Doing the coursework earns you credit toward your Massachusetts Basic Hunter Education Certificate and provides the necessary information to successfully pass the final exam. Allot 6-8 hours to accomplish this assignment. Homework will remain valid for one year from course completion.

    For best performance use a computer/laptop and either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as your browser.

    The Massachusetts Hunter Safety study guide is comprised of 16 sections (12 chapters and 4 virtual field day hunt situations) each with a quiz. Read each section and complete all the quizzes. You must receive a score of 80% or better to proceed to the next section.

    Once all 16 quizzes are successfully completed (80% or better), you will end on a final “Congratulations” page  stating that you  successfully completed the Massachusetts Hunter Safety study guide.  While on this page, save it as a file (i.e., pdf, jpg, jpeg, gif).

    Example: How to save the final “Congratulations” page as a PDF

    1. Sign in to your Online MA Hunter Safety study guide account.
    2. Navigate to the final “Congratulations” page.
    3. Hover over the page and right-click your mouse. Choose “print” from the drop-down menu.
    4. A new window will open with options. Select the option to “Save as a PDF”. Then click “save”.
    5. A window will appear, prompting you to save a file named HUNTERcourse.com.pdf and to specify a location.
    6. Edit the file name to include your full legal name (i.e., amesJSmithHUNTERcourse.com.pdf). Then click “save”.
    7. Once your work is saved, use the “Browse Files” button (below) to attach a copy.
    8. Your coursework will be verified before approving your Field Day request.

    After you finish the coursework, you are prepared to attend the classroom session to complete the course. Choose one of the Field Day events listed below. Please review the dates, times, and locations carefully.
