    Consent Form 2025
  • What is the Brooklyn College Listening Project?

The BC Listening Project is a college-wide project designed to listen to and record stories about life and experiences in Brooklyn. Any students, faculty, or staff are invited to participate as interviewers or to tell their stories.

  • Who is running the project?

The project is being run by faculty from several departments including History, Journalism, TV & Radio, Music, Sociology, American Studies, Children & Youth Studies, Anthropology, and English. To get more involved, or if you have questions about the project, you can contact Prof. Naomi Schiller: nschilleer@brooklyn.cuny.edu or Prof. Joseph Entin: jentin@brooklyn.cuny.edu.

  • What do I have to do?

We are asking you to participate in an interview. The interview will last between 30 min and 1 hr. You will be asked about your experiences in Brooklyn. You are free to answer or not answer any question you are asked. You can choose not to participate, and you can stop at any time.

  • What will happen with the interview?

If you choose, your story will join the other stories collected in this project in a digital archive stored in the Brooklyn College Library. We anticipate that there will be about 150 stories in the archive. This archive is public and can be accessed by anyone. Additional interviews might be added in future years. Some stories will be produced as audio podcasts and may be broadcast publicly.

  • What are the risks and benefits?

The benefits of your participation are that you may have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to document and preserve the history and stories of the people of Brooklyn. You may also gain some public recognition for your participation in this project. The risks include that you may find that people disagree with some of your opinions or your interpretations. This could include family members or members of the general public.
