  • The Lyra Taylor Fund - Expression of Interest

  • Lyra Taylor made a unique contribution to the development of Social Work in Australia. She was the first social worker to be appointed in 1944 to the Commonwealth Department of Social Services, was Director of the National Old People’s Welfare Council of Victoria, and was a member of the foundation committee of the Australian Association of Social Workers. On her death in 1979, she bequeathed her estate to the Victorian Branch of the Australian Association of Social Workers, which subsequently established the Lyra Taylor Fund, administered for the following purposes.

    To advance education in relation to Social Work by:

    - Promoting, improving and maintaining standards of professional practice, education and  research.
    - Establishing and maintaining continuing professional education opportunities for  members.
    - Educating and informing the public and community institutions as to the aims and objectives of professional Social Work.
