    Contraindications

There are times when it is not beneficial for someone to steam. So, first let's review to make sure that you don't have any contraindications.

  • Are you currently on your moon cycle/period?*
  • Do you currently have fresh spotting (red/pink blood)?*
  • Have you had spontaneous bleeding within the past 3 months?*
  • Have you had two periods per month in the past 3 months?*
  • Are you pregnant?*
  • Have you had surgery within the past 6 weeks?*
  • If you answered yes to any of the questions above, it indicates that vaginal steaming is contraindicated at this time. It is not safe and could result in negative side effects such as the onset of bleeding or miscarriage.

Steaming should not be performed at this time, but can be reevaulted in one month.

    Herb Selection

Now, let's move forward with tailoring the herbs in your steam formula to meet you where you are. Some people are more responsive than others to heat and steam. Providing the following information will help provide the best support to you in your steam sessions by selecting herbs suitable to your constitution.

  • Are you younger than 13 years old?*
  • Are your moon cycles currently or historically ever shorter than 28 days?*
  • Do you have an IUD?*
  • Are you currently or historically prone to yeast infections?*
  • Are you currently or historically prone to bacterial infections?*
  • Do you have a nuva ring? (if so, it should be removed prior to steam sessions.)*
  • Do you have a history of spontaneous bleeding or two periods per month (4 months or later in the past)?*
  • Rows
  • Do you have an infection characterized with burning itch?*
  • Important Disclaimers

If you are using certian birth control methods vaginal steaming could cause birth control failure. It is not recommended unless you are okay with a backup form of birth control or you are not concerned about a possible pregnancy.

If you have burning itch the warmth from the steam could be uncomfortable since there is already so much heat in that area. In this case it is best to seek treatment or wait until the burning sensation is gone before vaginal steam sessions. You could also try doing a bath with cooling herbs.

If you have had a uterine ablation procedure (to scare the uterine walls) it is possible that vaginal steaming will clear the scar tissue reversing the surgery.

Due to possible interactions with herbal teatments and some pharmacutical medications it is best to check with your health care provider before your first steam session. After completing this survey, if you would like a full list of your personal steam formula, please make note in the next slide.
