Our Aims
At Stars we aim to provide a smooth transition between home, the club and school. The club provides a safe, secure and relaxed environment, offering a range of activities to reflect the interests of the children in our care. It is important that the children feel relaxed, content and happy both before and after school. We strive to provide the best possible experience for every child during their time with us.
What We Offer
We plan and deliver a range of activities. Children are free to choose from the variety of play equipment that is available to them or participate in an adult led activity. There will always be a selection of activities and resources available, including, home corner, craft, board games, construction, physical play and reading.
What we provide
We provide a fruit snack at every session. A light meal is provided to those children attending breakfast club (arriving before 8.15am), twilight club and/or the full Stars after school session. Children are permitted to bring their own snacks but we would ask that everyone follows our no nut policy.
Staffing
Stars staff are recruited in line with safer recruitment procedures and have enhanced DBS checks. We are
committed to best practice in safeguarding and regularly review and update our safeguarding policy and procedures. The staff members have significant experience of working with children and undertake professional development training. We maintain a staff/child ratio which is in line with Ofsted guidelines and ensures the safety of the children in our setting.
If you have a query or concern at any time, please speak to a member of staff at the club. If you prefer to
arrange an appointment for a meeting please contact the Club Manager by email or telephone.
Meet the team
Stars is staffed by the Club Manager, Donna Carroll, who is also the DWJS Senior Midday Supervisor, and a team of play workers. Staff share a wealth of experience of caring for children, including childcare qualifications and training certificates.
Extra-Curricular clubs within school
We are aware that there are some extra-curricular school clubs or activities that take place after school. If your child attends any of these clubs, they can join Stars after the club session has ended at 4.30pm. Please note that we are not responsible for children during the times that they are attending any additional clubs.
Policies and Procedures
Stars follows Darrick Wood Junior School and SOLA policies.
Admission
We require a completed registration form for your child before they can attend Stars. We also require any supporting documentation such as additional needs or health management forms. This information will be treated in strict confidence and will be retained and stored appropriately in line with GDPR good practice.
Stars is open to pupils/siblings who attend Darrick Wood Infant School in Reception to Year 2. Infant pupils will be taken to and collected from the infant school by members of Stars staff. We are happy to accommodate infant extra-curricular clubs.
Payment and fees
£7.00 for Breakfast Stars, £6.50 from end of school to 4.30pm (Afternoon Stars); £10 for 4.30pm to 6.00pm (Twilight Stars) and £13 for the full after school session.
Fees are payable on booking via the Arbor Parent Portal https://login.arbor.sc/ or App using a debit/credit card. We also accept Childcare Vouchers (see below). The price per session per child applies to all children. If you experience difficulty paying the fees, please speak in confidence to the Stars Club Manager.
Childcare Vouchers
If you are paying with Childcare Vouchers, please indicate this on the Admission Form and/or advise the school office as a slight adjustment will need to be made to your child’s Arbor account. A list of providers that the school is registered with can be found on the school website at https://www.dwjs.co.uk/Clubs-Extra-Curricular/
If your provider is not listed, please inform the office who will arrange to register with them.
Where you are able to add a reference to your payment, please start with "DWJ" followed by your child’s initial and surname. This will enable the SOLA finance team to allocate the payment to the correct school.
Temporary changes/Cancelling a session
Please remember that for safeguarding reasons, we need to know if your child will not be attending the club if they have been booked in. Please ensure you inform Stars via email at starsdwjs@solamat.co.uk. If your child does not attend a booked session, we will treat them as a ‘missing child’ unless you have notified us of their absence.
If you need to cancel a booked session, please contact Stars via email at starsdwjs@solamat.co.uk. It is not possible for parents to cancel sessions via the Arbor Parent Portal or App. Please note that you may be charged for cancellations made a short notice.
Late collection
Children booked onto an Afternoon session must be collected by 4.30pm. If they are not collected by this time, they will be added to the Twilight session and both charges will apply.
All children must be collected by 6.00pm. If you are delayed for any reason, please telephone the club as soon as possible. We reserve the right to charge a late collection fee of £30 for late collection. If your child remains uncollected after 6.30pm, you have not notified us that you will be delayed, and/or we have been unable to reach you or any of your child’s emergency contacts, we will follow the Late Collection Policy and contact the Bromley’s Children’s Social Care team.
Arrivals and departures
All pupils must be dropped off and collected by an adult. Children must not be left at the school gate to make their own way to Breakfast Club.
Children attending Breakfast Club should arrive by 8.30am at the latest. A register is taken when children arrive and your child will be signed out of the club each day when they are collected. We expect that your child will normally be collected by the people you have named on the registration form. If you need a different person to collect your child on a particular day, you must notify us in advance. We will not release your child into the care of a person unknown to us without your authorisation. We will not release your child into the care of a person under the age of 16. We operate a password system using the password you have provided.
Additional needs
We make every effort to accommodate and welcome children with additional needs. We will work in liaison with parents/carers and relevant professionals to fully understand your child’s specific requirements. We will endeavour to accommodate all children of all abilities, whilst working within the club’s limitations. Each case will be considered individually and risk-assessed to ensure everyone’s safety.
Child protection
We do our utmost to create an environment in which children are safe from harm and in which any suspicion of harm is responded to promptly and appropriately. We comply with local and national child protection procedures and ensure that all staff are appropriately trained. For more details, see the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.
Behaviour management
We will not tolerate anti-social or harmful behaviour and our expectations regarding children’s conduct are the same as at other times in the school day. We have behaviour management strategies in place to encourage and promote positive behaviour and, in the event that a child’s behaviour is identified as a risk to themselves or other children, we may need to discuss the appropriateness of the child’s continued attendance as per the school’s Behaviour Policy.
Illness and accidents
We are unable to care for children who are unwell. If your child becomes unwell whilst at the club, we will contact you and ask you to make arrangements for them to be collected. Please inform the Club Manager of any infectious illness your child contracts. If your child has had sickness or diarrhoea, please do not send them to the club for 48 hours after the illness has ceased. This is in line with the school’s procedures. Every precaution is taken to ensure the safety of the children at all times and the club is fully insured. Our staff are trained in first aid and a first aid kit is kept on the premises. If your child has an accident whilst in our care you will be informed when you collect your child unless the incident is such that it requires immediate notification.
