Camping Medication Information
Medications for camping trips are administered by the following guidelines:
Non prescription medication must be in the original packaging that has administration directions-no loose pills, no blister packs, and no medication in baggies. Medication must be in date (not expired). Staff cannot administer out of date medication. We ask that you put your learner’s name on the packaging. These guidelines apply to herbal and vitamin supplements and cough drops, as well.
Special note about pain relievers such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil):
All medication must be given as directed on the label. Regular Strength Tylenol/acetaminophen is labeled for children ages 6 and up. Extra Strength Tylenol/acetaminophen and Advil/ibuprofen are labeled for children ages 12 and up. If your learner is younger than 12 years of age staff cannot administer either Extra Strength Tylenol/acetaminophen or Advil/ibuprofen without a prescription from a healthcare provider. Please check all over the counter/non prescription medications for dosage direction/age requirements. If the medication label states for ages 12 and up, staff will not be able to administer this medication to a learner under the age of 12 without a prescription from a healthcare provider.
Prescription medication must be in the original container labeled with the name of the learner, date, directions for administration and the prescriber’s name. All prescription medication must include a written order from a licensed healthcare professional with prescriptive rights. This written order can be the pharmacy label on the medication. The medication must be in date (not expired.) Staff cannot administer out of date medication. All prescription medication must be administered per the directions on the prescription label. If your healthcare provider has verbally changed the dosage/directions from that which is written on the label we must have a written order from the prescribing healthcare provider stating the changes in dosage/directions; otherwise, staff can only administer the medication as written on the original container.
All medication must be taken in the presence of at least one school employee and documented by staff. All medications, including non-prescription medication will be kept and administered by staff.
