  • Main Street Amherst has instituted a banner program to honor and remember those men and women that have served in the Armed Forces and have ties with the City of Amherst. Each banner will be in honor of a specific deceased service person and will include their name, branch of service, and photo. Banners will be proudly displayed in Amherst historic downtown.

    The full-color banners are printed double-sided and measure approximately 16"W x 41"H. The cost per banner is $200.00.

    Request for specific locations will not be taken.

    The banners will be hung once the Christmas decorations are taken off the poles in January and the banners will be taken down in time for the hanging baskets to go up in May.

    Main Street Amherst will notified the person that purchased the banner to pick it up after they are displayed in the historic district.  

    HOW DO I PURCHASE A BANNER?

    Step 1- Bring your photo to the Main Street Amherst Office to be approved. We are located at 255 Park Avenue and the office is open Monday-Friday 9am to 1pm. Please call before coming to make sure someone is in the office at (440) 984-6709. Our email is director@mainstreetamherst.org. Please note that the photos are the most important part of these banners! Please use high quality images ONLY.

    Option A: Printed Photographs: Photos need to be at least 5" x 7" and must not be enlarged from a smaller print or photocopied from an original print. The photo must be in color, black & white, or sepia toned (brownish). It does not matter how old the photo is, as long as it is clean and in focus.

    Option B: Digital Photographs: Images need to be at least 300 dpi high-resolution photos in a JPEG, TIF or PNG file format that would print clearly at an 8" x 10" size. Please DO NOT enlarge existing images electronically as this degrades the image quality. Web images or cellphone shots of the original print are not acceptable. Images saved in any document other than JPEG, TIF or PNG will not be usable!

    Step 2 - Once the photo is approved by Main Street Amherst, complete the application below. Be sure to review the application carefully regarding proof of service and payment process. 

    *Only one person per photo.

    **Program details subject to change. Space is limited. Main Street Amherst is not responsible for replacing banners that are stolen, damaged, or destroyed due to vandalism, age, or any acts of nature including high winds.*

  • When submitting your application the following is required:

    *Completed Application

    *Payment of $200.00

    *Copy of the DD214 (mailed/dropped off to the address below-if the office is closed put in the mail slot on the front door). Copies may be requested from the Lorain County Veterans Service Office at 440-284-4625.

    *Do not send photos - photographer should already have it

    *The first 50 to complete all steps will be guaranteed a banner for the 2025 season.
