Central Florida Mutual Aid is excited to organize a peer support group for community organizers, activists, and volunteers. The trauma and harm caused by capitalism, colonization, hetero-patriarchy, and white supremacy are real! And that's not even touching on complicated family dynamics. As organizers on the left, we are actively working to build a better world, and it is important to acknowledge the interplay between that work and our mental and emotional wellbeing.
Facilitated peer support will provide participants with an opportunity to share and learn tools for self-regulation and resilience, talk about our struggles and hopes, and cry, laugh, and heal together. And there will be memes! Lots and lots of memes.
What is peer support, you ask? Put simply, it is support provided by your peers — people who have shared knowledge and experiences. Peer support relies on non-hierarchical, reciprocal relationships, and is based on the idea that we all have wisdom and help to offer each other.
