  • Overview

  • The Healthy Kids Running Series Board of Directors governs the overall execution of the organization’s mission.  Principally, the board manages organizational finances and sets long-term priorities for programs.  

    Additionally, the board selects, oversees, and evaluates the performance of the Executive Directors, who are responsible for the day-to-day management of the Healthy Kids Running Series programs.  Overall, the members of the Board contribute legal and financial skills needed to ensure long-term organizational stability and excellence.


    The Board of Directors has up to 9 voting members.  Terms are for two years (renewable).   


    Board member responsibilities include attendance at three in-person meetings per year, as well as teleconference meetings and active electronic conversations as part of board committees.  Board members also hold fiduciary responsibility for managing organizational capital and ensuring appropriate filings with federal, state, and local authorities consistent with The Healthy Kids Running Series’ status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. 

  • Declaration of Candidacy

  • Board positions require a time and energy commitment that should not be underestimated.  Candidates are urged to consider personal priorities as well as the ways to contribute to the development of the organization.

    To apply:

    • Submit the one-page Board Application and your résumé / CV
    • Submit three (3) references
    • References will be contacted, and copies of the one-page application will be distributed to those selecting members, as this will aid in understanding how you would like to contribute to the organization’s work.  
  • Time, Influence and Financial Considerations

  • Meetings:

    • Conference Calls (can be monthly) for updates on programs, setting policy, and approving committee work.
    • Committee Work (generally by email/conference call) on the Program, Finance/Audit, and Administration Committees.
    • January Board Meeting (date varies).
    • May Board Meeting (date varies).
    • September Board Meeting (date varies).

    Circle of Influence:  As with any non-profit board, members will be encouraged to leverage their circle of influence for human, material, and financial resourcing.


    Donations: As with any non-profit board, members will be solicited for a cash or in-kind donation; 100% participation is sought; the amount is personal but should be meaningful to represent a commitment to the organization.
