  • Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Hawley Public Library!

    Our Youth Volunteer Program is open to students who are self-motivated and able to work independently in grades 7 -12 who would lilke to help out in the Children's Room and make a difference in the community. Volunteers must be available to keep a regular assigned shift in summer and/or during the school year depending on placement. Students will be assigned a one to three-hour shift, one day per week depending on the need from the library.

    A MINIMUM COMMITMENT OF 12 VOLUNTEER HOURS IS REQUIRED FOR ALL APPLICANTS.

    Please double-check that each applicable field is filled in. An incomplete application will not be considered. Once your application is submitted, it will be reviewed and you will be contacted if an opening is available.

  • ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A VOLUNTEER

  • Listed below are some of the activities we may ask our volunteers to participate in. The activities are subject to change.

    - Library Maintenance: Clean toys, clean shelves and books, and light general cleaning and organization.

    - Children's Programming: Enjoy working with children, helping with program/craft preparations, helping run and set up/clean up children's programs, family events, special events, and more.

    - Circulation/Material Processing: Processing books (involves computer data entry skills), book organizing, labeling, shelving, and more.

    Please be as specific as you can with how often you are hoping to be a volunteer.

  • Community Service

    Please fill out ONLY if you are volunteering to fulfill Community Service Hours. A minimum commitment of 12 Volunteer hours is REQUIRED.

  • PHOTO PERMISSION FORM - FOR PARENT/GUARDIAN

    The Hawley Public Library has my permission to use photographs of my child (a minor under 18 years of age) taken during library activities for use on their website or other promotional material. These pictures may be posted on social media platforms as well as used for marketing and promotions within the library. Example of this are pictures taken during a Storytime program that your child has helped with and they are in the photo.
  • EXPECTATIONS FOR YOUTH VOLUNTEERS

  • Please read and sign the application at the bottom.

    - You will follow the schedule assigned by the library. Aside from emergencies out of your control, you must give at least 24 hours' notice if you cannot be at the library during your scheduled shift. If you are unable to be at the library during your assigned shift due to an emergency, or if you are running late, you will contact the Youth Services Manager. If 3 shifts are missed without contact, then you will be dismissed as a volunteer.

    - You will sign in upon your arrival at the library, and you will sign out when leaving.

    - You will dress in a professional manner and maintain appropriate personal hygiene.

    - You will behave courteously to library staff and patrons and will refrain from talking on your cell phone or socializing with your friends while volunteering.

    - You will remain at the Hawley Library during your scheduled shift unless arrangements were made in advance. The Hawley Library is not responsible for volunteers that may leave before or after their shift ends.

    By signing below, you agree to the roles and responsibilities, as well as the expectations of the Hawley Library Youth Volunteer Program and understand that, as a volunteer, your behavior reflects upon the library.
