Dear Friends and Family,
2022 has been a year filled with change. In February, I made the difficult decision to resign from teaching for the following school year. I knew that leaving teaching was best for my personal health, but I was devastated because during the three years that I taught, God grew my heart for teenagers. I loved getting to know them, investing in their lives and being one of their biggest cheerleaders. The Lord gave me peace that leaving education was the right choice and that my next steps would be revealed in time. Little did I know that during my three years at Severance Middle School, He was preparing the way for me to come on staff with Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) to serve the Windsor and Severance communities. While teaching at Severance Middle School, I served as the teacher host for the weekly FCA meeting. It was a way that I was able to connect with my students spiritually, something I couldn’t do directly during science class. During the summer, a position with FCA opened up to serve this same community. In my new role, I’ll be able to keep pouring into the same students I taught, helping them continue to grow in their faith and develop as sons and daughters of Jesus.
What is Fellowship of Christian Athletes?
FCA is a ministry that was founded in the United States in 1954. Since then, FCA has grown to an international ministry with a presence in over 100 countries. Their mission is “To lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.” FCA seeks to do this through engaging coaches and athletes in camps, club sports, and school campuses. FCA means EVERY athlete so FCA has expanded to include all types of athletics from football and basketball, to hunting, fishing, dance, equestrian, and more! FCA also means all abilities, even those athletes with mental and/or physical disabilities. We are all sons and daughters of Jesus and have a seat at His table.
FCA values Integrity (Proverbs 11:3), Serving (John 13:1-17), Teamwork (Philippians 2:1-4), and Excellence (Coossians 3:23-24). These Biblical values effortlessly fit into the platform of athletics. The influence of a coach lasts a lifetime, the disciplines learned through sports have lifelong impacts.
My Role in FCA?
I am going on staff with FCA as the Area Representative in Windsor and Severance, Colorado. My responsibility is to oversee all of FCA in these two neighboring communities. I will be serving nearly 60 teams, over 100 coaches, and several hundred athletes between two middle schools and two high schools. One of the ways I do this is through weekly “Huddles” at each of the schools. This is a time where students gather to do team building, hear a message or do a bible study led by myself, a student leader, other FCA staff, or local community members. This time enables students to encounter Jesus right where they’re at and get to grow their personal relationship with Jesus.
I also get to partner with local churches to serve the coaches and athletes at these schools. FCA isn’t affiliated with a specific denomination, but works as a bridge to unify and mobilize the body of Christ into schools through volunteering at different sporting events and “character coaching.” We want every team to be partnered with a Character Coach who is there to serve the team and assist the coaches while also bringing Biblical values like integrity, serving, teamwork, and excellence to these 60 teams.
As an Area Representative, I will continue to engage the relationships I built while teaching and then build new relationships with athletes and coaches, equipping and empowering them to grow in relationship with Christ as they set out to do the same for others.
Get Involved
None of this is possible without you; the Great Commission is our co-mission. I am called to be in these schools directly ministering to these kids. However, I need partnership with others who also believe in this mission. I would love it if you took a few minutes to fill out the form below sharing your interest in getting involved with what God is doing through me and FCA.
