College Steps Support Specialist Position
College Steps is a nonprofit organization that partners with colleges and universities to support students with social, communication, and learning disabilities. We employ undergraduate Peer Mentors to support students in the areas of academic enrichment, social integration, independent living, and pre-employment skills.
The Support Specialist works closely with the Instructional Coordinator to implement campus-based support for College Steps students and provide guidance and leadership to the Peer Mentor team. Support Specialists may also be asked to complete daily administrative tasks, oversee day-to-day operations of the program, and assist in the development of session curriculum materials.
Note: This is an in-person position for the Fall 2024-Spring 2025 Academic Year, based at the Rockland Community College Campus in Suffern, NY.
Position requirements:
- Available to work on campus at RCC between the hours of 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday
- Scheduling availability of 20 hours per week for in-person services on the college campus during the academic year
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Support Specialist roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement group sessions with students on campus
- Supervise student and mentor in-person sessions
- Support implementation of day-to-day in-person operations
- Provide direct support to students in the areas of academic enrichment, social integration, independent living, and pre-employment skills
- Assist students with the organization of assignments and scheduled tasks/events
- Support Program Coordinator with daily administrative tasks
- Relay communication about student progress to the Program Coordinator
- Attend individual supervision with the Program Coordinator
- Complete any other related tasks that may be delegated by the Program Coordinator
