  • Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation - Hunter Legacy Scholarship Application

  • Eligibility:

    • Must be a Central A & M student senior
    • The applicant must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled at an accredited college, university or community college
    • Pursuing a degree in an agricultural related field or study leading to a career which impacts the agricultural industry
    • The applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student to qualify for the scholarship.
    • Applicant must have a GPA of 3.5/4 or 4.5/5 or higher
    • The student applying must have a family member (Parent/Grandparent/Aunt/Uncle) in good standing with Farm Bureau
    • Application must be returned TYPED; no handwritten applications will be accepted!
    • Qualified applicants must complete an application and enclose a certified high school transcript confirming GPA and provide a certified transcript confirming GPA and ACT/SAT scores. Certified transcripts must be submitted in a sealed envelope or electronically via email

     

    Deadline and Review Process:

    A group of judges will be selected by the Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation. Applications are scored and ranked by an independent committee appointed by the Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation not affiliated with Shelby County, Shelby County Farm Bureau or Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation.

    • Those judges will then provide the three Hunter sisters (Elizabeth Thurman, SuEllen Mackey & Amy Rademaker) with ranking of the top three applications for a final decision.
    • The criteria for the scholarship will include:
      • Dedication to academics (GPA and ACT/SAT Score)
      • Community/School/Employment/Activity Success
      • Potential of the student to impact the agricultural industry
      • Essay
      • 3 References
    • All information contained in each application will be kept completely confidential.
    • All application materials must be received in the SCFB office by 4pm March 11, 2022, NO EXCEPTIONS
       

    Scholarship Administration:

    • The Hunter Legacy Scholarship will continue to be privately funded by the Robert G. Hunter Trust.
    • One student will be awarded $1500.  Check payable directly to the student upon graduation from Central A & M.

  • Please provide examples of the three most meaningful/influential activities in which you have particiapted. Descriptions should be no more than two sentences each and could include examples from school, activities, clubs, community involvement, work history, etc.

  • 5. Essay

    Please explain what influenced your decision to pursue a degree in your area of study, your professional goals and what impact you can make to your community.
  • Attach your typed essay following these guidelines: 

    - no more than two pages double spaced

    - 12 pt font

    - Times New Roman

  • 6. Letters of Recommendation

  • Please provide this form to a current instructor, coach, employer, or mentor who can speak to your academic performance, peer relationships, and community service involvement. This individual should not be related to the applicant or a staff member with the Shelby, Macon, Christian County Farm Bureau's or the Illinois Farm Bureau. A form can be emailed to each of three references. A completed application will include THREE recommendations.

  • Completed recommendations should be given to the student to attach to application in a sealed envelope, emailed to Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation at shelbycofb@outlook.com, or mailed no later than March 10, 2023.

  • Letter of Recommendation: Please address, on letter head, the following questions in regard to the applicant. Once completed please return to the student in one of three ways: (1) in a sealed envelope to the student, (2) email to shelbycofb@outlook.com, or (3) mail to Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation office. Thank you!

    1. How would you describe the student's character?
    2. Describe the student's interaction with his/her peers.
    3. Please describe the student's maturity, motivation and communication skills.

  • I understand that should I be selected as a scholarship winner as a result of submission of this application, I will be asked to submit a photograph of myself and/or be photographed for inclusion in local newspapers or publications, and the Shelby County Farm Bureau Facebook page and website for publicity purposes. I hearby authorize the Shelby County Farm Bureau to publish my picture in the event that I am selected a winner and expressly release Shelby County Farm Bureau, its officers, employees and ages from any and all claims, known or unknown, rising out of or in any way connected with the uses described above. (NOTE: if the applicant is under 18, a parent must sign, the application will not be accepted otherwise).

    Winners will be notified via email April 28, 20223. Winners will be announced and posted to our website by May 12, 2023. A news release will be published June 1, 2023 in our membership newspaper.

    We would like to recognize our high school scholarship recipients at their High School Graduation awards night. Please work with us to get that scheduled.

    We invite all scholarship recipients to our May board of directors meeting to be recognized for their outstanding academic succes. This will be May 9, 2023 at 7:30 PM at the Shelby County Farm Bureau office.
