The Snapshot Climate Tool, developed by Ironbark Sustainability in collaboration with Beyond Zero Emissions, has been providing free and accessible emissions information since 2019.
In October we will be releasing updated profiles for the 2020 calendar year and the 2020-21 financial year. But hold on to your hats – there are lots of additional features and information in this version of the update. This is not just some updated numbers or changes to the Snapshot “doughnuts” or an extra year. We’re talking powerful changes to the Snapshot interface to ensure the platform is valuable to councils and communities around Australia.
Join us at our launch webinar at 11am AEDT on Thursday 27th October to hear from the Victorian Minister for Environment and Climate Action, The Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio, and get all the latest from the Snapshot team on new data, new features and new timeseries to help determine the most effective zero emissions actions for your local area.
The Victorian Government has provided funding and support to update Snapshot with new features to improve data accuracy, depict timeseries and provide detailed subsector data for the first time.
- Timeseries data makes tracking of emissions reduction progress over time simple and allows monitoring and reporting towards emissions reduction targets.
- Subsector data provides more detailed and granular emissions information to support effective targeting of actions to reduce emissions for specific geographic areas and activity sectors.
- Additional data sources, methods and verifications improves data accuracy. For example, Aviation data has been updated with an additional 30 councils allocated relevant aviation emissions.
Ironbark Sustainability is also providing all Australian councils with complete Basic+ profiles with the inclusion of emissions from Industrial Processes and Product Use. This will see all profiles increase in total value, by about 5%, but will provide a full picture of emissions for each area for the first time, in line with the Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Inventories.
Snapshot is the only resource that provides accessible emissions data for the public good, supporting all councils and communities across Australia. The new features of Snapshot provide accurate and useful data to help identify actions that will lead to most effective emissions reductions in each local government area and in each activity sector. Through the surveys that helped create the 2021 Local Government Climate Review and the countless feedback and input from Snapshot webinars, we’re able hear what’s important to councils. We’ve listened and developed these updates based on that feedback and with the generous support of the Victorian Government.
We are also grateful for the support of our first ever Snapshot Sponsors: Darwin, Stonnington, Manningham and Unley City Councils who have jumped on board to ensure emissions profiles and climate information remains free and accessible for their communities and councils around Australia.
