The SSA is beginning arrangements to schedule a hearing in your disability case.
The SSA therefore wants you to sign and return this COVID-19 Remote Hearing Agreement Form to advise as to whether you want to appear at your hearing via:
- Telephone
- Online Video; or,
- In-person
The choice is ultimately yours. Here are some things to consider:
- It will likely take longer to get an in-person hearing than a telephone or online video hearing. Hence, if your main concern is getting a hearing date sooner rather than later, you should agree to either a telephone or online video hearing.
- The Social Security Judge will not be able to see you during a telephone hearing. Hence, if you have a disability that you think the Judge really needs to see, e.g., tremors in your hands, you should agree to either an online video or in-person hearing.
- If you agree to an online video hearing, there is a chance that the hearing will be held by a Social Security Judge located outside of New Mexico - e.g., from the SSA's National Hearing Center in Falls Church, Virginia. This isn't necessarily a bad thing.
