  • Here are some improtant things you need to do before completing this form:

By completing this application, you are requesting a Police Service Dog from Throw Away Dogs Project. Each Applicant will be brought before our Board for consideration. This process does not guarantee a Police Dog will be placed with your Department. The Throw Away Dogs Team takes immense pride in our selection process to ensure the dog is being placed with a Department that has the manpower, financial capability, and experience necessary to utilize this donation to the full extent possible. All questions must be answered, any applications that have unanswered questions will be dismissed. Once you submit your application, our team will be contacting the person in charge for a phone interview. We also will be following up with the Veterinarian as well as your intended K9 training school. K9 school/training/certifications must be completed within 90 days of receiving one of our dogs.

Please do not submit this application if you are not ready to receive a dog.

  • Training

  • In some cases, Throw Away Dogs will be donating dogs that are already trained and imprinted on certain odor. This training process is done to ensure that the dog we are donating meets all of our qualifications before the dog is donated. Our Trainers are located in various States and you will be advised of where the dog is being trained. Upon completion of our training of the dog, the Handler will be required to travel to our Trainer and meet the dog for a brief training session. You will utilize this time to evaluate the dog to make sure the dog meets your standards (you are welcome to bring whomever you wish and it is highly recommended you bring your K9 Trainer for this evaluation process). After this process, we will do a small donation ceremony and sign the dog over to your department.

From time to time, Throw Away Dogs will only be providing a "green dog" that will only be prepped and ready to start K9 school.

After the K9 is signed over, your department, will be required to make arrangements to obtain and complete the required training (certified as a team) within 90 (ninety) days for "single purpose" and 120 (one hundred twenty) days for "dual purpose" of receiving their donated dog, otherwise the receipient will forfeit their donation and the dog will be returned to Throw Away Dogs Project. Throw Away Dogs is available to make suggestions of several Handler Schools that we recommend if you need help with finding one. We are actively working with serveral training businesses that have offered to help with Handler School and training. Our Nonprofit takes great pride in the placement of our dogs with qualified departments, we want to ensure our grant recipient of our dogs will utilize and care for them properly.
