Join Our Fight Against Conversion Therapy

Be a part of our email campaign towards venues that plan to host hate speech
A number of venues across Scotland are planning to host events by the Christian Institute of Scotland promoting hate speech including the use of conversion therapy. Two of these venues, Elgin's Eight Acres Hotel and the Marine Troon Hotel claim to be "LGBT+ Friendly" (as shown by their Google search results), with one of them even hosting a Pride event prior, so their decision to platform these events suggests they are either unaware of this organisation's views and aims or simply don't care.

Please join us in informing these venues of exactly what they're supporting and the harm they will cause to the LGBTQ+ community by continuing - by submitting this form, you can send an email to the venues involved using our campaign wording (with space to add your own words as desired) explaining the issue and requesting they cancel their events and stand by the whole LGBTQ+ community.

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to you on behalf of a collective of Scottish LGBTQ+ individuals and our loved ones, as we have been made aware that your venue is hosting an upcoming event by The Christian Institute, called “Scotland Tour: Fighting For The Family”. This event involves openly promoting, and calling for, the legal protection of ‘conversion’ practices in Scotland. This term refers to a range of extremely dangerous and discredited practices that falsely claim to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity/expression, and has been outright rejected by every mainstream medical and mental health organisation for a number of decades. Conversion practices are currently being investigated by the Scottish Government with an aim to introduce legislation by the end of 2023 to outright ban them. It is clear that for most of our local community, an extremist fringe group such as The Christian Institute does not speak for us, and even their presence represents a threat to the LGBTQ+ families living near and around your venue. The impact of conversion practices on LGBTQ+ individuals can be long-lasting and devastating. For more information on the harm that these practices cause, you can read testimonies at stonewallscotland.org.uk from survivors of conversion therapy, though I wish to provide a warning for discussions of abuse, trauma and suicide. We would like to ask you to cancel this event at your venue, and to issue an apology to those harmed by your decision to platform this group, whether harms were intended or not. Thank you for your time in reading this, and we hope that we can agree on hate speech having no place in Scotland.
