We’re looking for passionate, skilled climbers to join our team as Climbing Retail Sales Associates in our St. George store. If your weekends are spent projecting sport routes, placing bomber trad gear, dialing in your bouldering power, free soloing (responsibly), or balancing on a slackline, we want you on our team.

At Al’s, we outfit climbers for everything—from their first pair of shoes to full trad racks and performance-driven sport gear. We work with the leading brands in the climbing industry, and we’re looking for team members who not only know the gear but live the lifestyle. The ideal candidate is an experienced climber excited to share their knowledge—whether that’s explaining cam sizes, comparing crash pads, recommending a rope for a new climber, or helping someone gear up for their next big wall.

In addition to working in the climbing department, this role will also support our camping department. Team members will help customers find the right backpacking, tent, sleep system, and outdoor essentials to round out their adventures—ensuring they’re fully prepared from trailhead to summit.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide an exceptional customer experience through fair, friendly, and knowledgeable service, ensuring every climber and camper feels confident in their gear choices.
• Offer expert climbing guidance by sharing hands-on experience in sport, trad, bouldering, slacklining, and general climbing systems to help customers choose the right equipment for their objectives.
• Support the camping department by assisting customers with backpacking, tents, stoves, sleep systems, and other outdoor essentials.
• Develop strong familiarity with all merchandise, including climbing hardware, ropes, harnesses, crash pads, carabiners, apparel, and camping equipment, to provide quick and accurate product information.
• Resolve customer questions and concerns promptly while maintaining a positive and solutions-oriented approach.
• Provide accurate pricing, sale, and promotional information to ensure customers receive the most up-to-date details.
• Assist customers in locating merchandise throughout the store and recommend complementary gear for their climbing or camping adventures.
• Maintain clean, safe, and well-organized department spaces by following all procedures, safety guidelines, and store standards.
• Merchandise and restock displays to ensure products are attractively presented, clearly labeled, and easy for customers to browse.
• Stay current on industry trends, brands, and technologies, sharing this knowledge with customers and the team.
• Contribute to overall team success by supporting coworkers, assisting with store tasks as needed, and participating in department goals and initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

• Active participation in outdoor activities with a strong emphasis on rock climbing disciplines—including bouldering, sport climbing, trad climbing, and general climbing systems.
• Genuine enthusiasm for climbing culture and the ability to share personal experience, gear knowledge, and practical tips with customers of all skill levels.
• Comfortable initiating conversation and approaching customers proactively to offer assistance and build rapport.
• Strong attention to detail, especially when discussing technical climbing equipment such as cams, quickdraws, ropes, and belay devices.
• Well-developed organizational skills to maintain clean, well-stocked, and visually appealing climbing and camping sections.
• Ability to work effectively within a team, communicating clearly and supporting teammates in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Commitment to maintaining cleanliness and safety throughout the sales floor, including monitoring gear displays and ensuring items are properly handled.
• Effective communication skills, both in delivering product knowledge and explaining safety considerations for climbing and camping equipment.
• Ability to provide quick, accurate information on gear specifications, pricing, sales, and product features.
• Works with urgency, energy, and a consistently positive attitude, contributing to an upbeat and welcoming store environment.
• Willingness to stay current on climbing and outdoor trends, new products, and brand technologies to better assist customers.

Helpful

• Previous retail or customer service experience.
