  • In the years following the Civil War, the United States developed rapidly, and a great many Jewish families of modest roots succeeded beyond their wildest imaginations. The Goldmans, Sachs, Belmonts, Sulzbergers, Pulitzers, Guggenheims, Warburgs, Schiffs, Strauses, and more innovated in every industry imaginable and have left their stamp on the world through their arts, philanthropy, and the palaces they built. This presentation explores the families that built some of the city's most recognizable institutions, from The New York Times to Macy's.
