Founded by award-winning poet Crystal Tennille Irby the mission of Writer’s Well Youth Fellowship to nurture the imagination of Black girls/femmes, 14-19, interested in writing and performance through FREE creative workshops and retreats. The intention of this fellowship is to build a foundation and sisterhood for Black girls to rely upon in writing and help them carve out a career path in writing and performance.
Core Values
- Writers Well Youth Fellowship is a Blackcentric space where all Black lives are sacred.
- We speak and act with intention, integrity and authenticity.
- We believe in equity for all
- We offer care & compassion to ourselves, one another and our art.
- We choose to show up and be present.
We execute these values by providing Black girls/femmes/non-binary/gender expansive youth with the tools and skills to author their own stories allowing them to:
- Bear witness
- Document their humanity
- Imagine a future
This is how we ensure we center Black girls and gender expansive youth experience and build a foundation for their leadership.
Writers Well Youth Fellowship pursues healing for justice, nurturing the voices of girls who are Black writers. We do not condone homophobia, transphobia, or seek to control young adults. We believe that their healthy expression is beneficial to our world. Our goal is to work with Black girls, across the femme and gender spectrum, within South Carolina who are writers! You write? Let's go!
