The Winterville Marigold Festival, Inc., seeks artist submissions for artwork that will be the Featured Artwork of the 2023 festival. Artwork for consideration as our Featured Artwork must be two-dimensional and reproducible on posters, t-shirts, etc.
Other artwork may be submitted for consideration in our quarterly (April-June) art show. Marigold- or Winterville-themed artwork is preferred.
The Winterville Marigold Festival has showcased community spirit since 1970. Located seven miles from Athens, Winterville is Georgia’s “City of Marigolds,” and our festival is centered around our historic train depot. The Marigold Festival features juried arts & crafts, select food vendors, and music all day.
Levels of Recognition
A select group of entries will be chosen to display their work at the quarterly (April-June) art show at The Winterville Center for Community & Culture. Artists may choose to sell their original art during the exhibition, while keeping 100% of proceeds. We welcome donations from artists if there are sales made through The Community Center.
An opening reception for this show will be Friday, April 14, 2023.
One entry will be chosen as the 2023 Featured Artwork. In addition to display at the art show above, this entry will become the prominent visual representation of the 2023 Marigold Festival. Artwork will be featured and artist credited on:
Festival t-shirt and other souvenirs
Cover of Festival special insert in The Flagpole, Athens’ arts & entertainment weekly publication
Feature story on the artist in the Festival special insert
In addition, the artist will receive a complimentary booth from which to sell their art at the Festival and will receive promotion through other marketing avenues, including press releases and social media posts.
This call is open to both professional and amateur artists.
Deadline to apply is 5:00 p.m., December 10, 2022.
Selected artists will be notified by December 18, 2022.
Items selected for display in the April-June art show will need to be delivered to The Winterville Center for Community & Culture March 27 – March 31, 2023.
Items must be ready to hang and be available for display through June 30. Our hanging system requires that your piece have wire across the back. This is MANDATORY.
Opening for the April-June art show is Friday, April 14, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The 2023 Marigold Festival is Saturday, May 13, 2023.
You may submit up to 3 digital images for consideration.
Submitted images should be at least 300 dpi in .jpg format.
Final file format required of the selected Featured Artwork must be vector (.ai, .eps, .pdf) with all text converted to outlines, or raster (.psd, .tiff, .eps, .pdf).
Selection of the Featured Artwork will be made by the Winterville Marigold Festival, Inc., Board of Directors in conjunction with the Winterville Arts Council, the cultural arts arm of the City of Winterville.
Criteria will include use of marigolds and/or Winterville images in the artwork, and reproducibility of the artwork.
The Winterville Marigold Festival, Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to City improvement projects. Proceeds from the 2023 festival will be used for various beautification projects in the City.
