SELECTION CRITERIA
Nominations are open to women and girls who are making/have made contributions to the Greater Austin area and beyond by breaking through barriers and working to advance equity for women and girls within their profession and/or through other forms of public or community service.
Nominees may be contemporary or historical.
AWARD CATEGORIES
Economic Equity: recognizing those who help create or support economic opportunities and resources that enable women and girls to thrive in our community, including workplace equity, affordability, housing, childcare, and non-discrimination.
Safety: recognizing those who advocate for the safety and security of women and girls, including providing services and/or support for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and trafficking.
Health: recognizing those who advocate for women and girls’ mental and physical well-being, including access to quality and affordable healthcare, menstrual equity, maternal mortality, reproductive and sexual health, and overcoming impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gender and Race Equity: recognizing those who help address disparities across race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and sexual orientation.
Lifetime Achievement: recognizing those who demonstrate repeated outstanding achievements and recognition beyond their work profession for contributions of lasting impact in improving the quality of life for women and girls.
NEW Young Woman of Achievement: recognizing girls (under the age of 25) who have demonstrated a commitment to improving the quality of life in Austin and Travis County through extracurricular and academic involvement.
SELECTION PROCESS
The nominations will undergo a two-part review process. The initial review and scoring will be completed by Commissioners on the Commission for Women. The second and final review will be completed by a panel of independent judges who will select the honorees. A weighted scoring model will be used with Question 3.A. totaling 30% and 3.B. totaling 70%.
The judging process and notification to honorees will be completed February 2023. If more than one nomination is received for a particular nominee, the reveiwers, in their sole discretion, may consider any or all of the nominations for that individual in the judging process. Nominees cannot serve as judges.
