If you are planning to travel outside the UK, you may need to be vaccinated against some serious diseases found in other parts of the world.
If you would like to know what if any vaccinations are advised for your trip please complete our travel vaccination form ideally 2 months before you travel. This is important as some vaccinations require a course of multiple doses. Once this form has been completed our team will aim to be in contact with you within 5 working days to advise on recommended travel vaccinations.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription, and these incur a charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
The following travel vaccines are available free on the NHS:
- polio (given as a combined diphtheria/tetanus/polio)
- typhoid
- hepatitis A
- cholera
Vaccines not available on the NHS include:
- hepatitis B
- Japanese encephalitis
- meningitis vaccines
- rabies
- tick-borne encephalitis
- tuberculosis (TB)
- yellow fever
Yellow Fever vaccination and occasionally some of the other vaccinations listed above cannot be provided by the Evelyn Medical Centre. In these cases, you will need to access a private vaccination service or pharmacy that provides travel health care services.
www.travelhealthpro.org.uk is a very helpful website that gives country by country advice regarding risks of travel and potential vaccination needs. It is useful to look at this ahead of travel and if you have any questions they can be discussed at your appointment.
Please be aware that whilst you are abroad the surgery will not be able to:
Provide any medical advice by phone, or email.
Provide any copies of your prescriptions should you run out of any of your medications or ensure that there are suitable medication supplies at your intended destination if you leave any of your medication at home.
Source a doctor or medical assistance for you.
