For a description of the service, see page 558 of the Book of Common Prayer.
Liturgical Color: For Major Feasts of the Book of Common Prayer, the color should be that of the feast. For minor observances, the color can be that of the feast or the season.
Celebrant: The prayerbook anticipates that the Bishop will be the celebrant at this service. To ensure the Bishop’s availability, dates should be chosen in collaboration with Diocesan House. Please contact our Diocesan Administrator, Sandra Beld (sbeld@edtn.org) to determine possible dates.
Participant notes:
Bishop’s Chaplain: The Canon to the Ordinary usually functions as the Bishop’s chaplain at installation services, but on occasion (for example, when a close family member of the new Rector is a priest) others may serve in this role with the prior approval of the Bishop. Whenever possible, the chaplain should be seated next to the Bishop. The Canon to the Ordinary: The Canon to the Ordinary, unless for some reason prevented fromattending, will read the letter of institution upon the request of the Bishop, whether serving as Chaplain or not.Preacher: This is an opportunity to invite a colleague in ministry to preach, but please let Canon Howard know ahead of time who you’re inviting.
