1. Cultural practitioners survey
The five Local Authorities within Somerset are currently working together to create a new and exciting 5-year cultural strategy for the new unitary Somerset Council, which will come into being in April 2023. The Somerset Cultural Strategy will be critical in determining support for and investment in the arts and culture in Somerset. The Fifth Sector (www.thefifthsector.co.uk) has been appointed by the partnership of Somerset local authorities to engage with creative practitioners and businesses and to develop the strategy.
We want to ensure that the vision and priorities of the cultural strategy are based on accurate and up-to-the-minute profiles of artists, freelancers, arts and cultural organisations, creative businesses and community organisations' priorities for an inclusive five-year strategy, and to ensure that the arrangements put in place to deliver it are representative and inclusive of all Somerset’s communities.
We would be grateful if you could help us in this task by taking part in our survey. The survey is in two parts:
- Who are you? - questions for organisations/businesses, freelancers/sole traders, and networks about your practice and your audiences
- About you - a series of demographic questions to help us identify the diversity of cultural practitioners in Somerset.
The survey takes between 5 -10 minutes to complete.
The survey is anonymous and none of your comments will be attributed to you - please feel free to speak openly about your concerns and any barriers you may face.
The survey will help us uncover anywhere that arts and cultural activity happens, including in the voluntary and community sector, schools and colleges, the health and wellbeing sector and the night-time economy. We want to understand who makes culture happen in Somerset and how all elements of the ecology connect and interact. Therefore, we would ask that anyone who completes the survey passes it on through their networks and contacts across Somerset using this link: https://form.jotform.com/222842392711050
(A separate survey will go out to residents across the county, asking them about their participation in and attitudes toward arts and culture.)
2. World Café event
There will be a further opportunity to provide input to the strategy in the form of a “World Café” consultation event to be held later this year, date and venue tbc. (A World Café is a larger event in which those attending work in smaller groups to address several questions over the course of a 90 minute workshop). If you would be interested in taking part, please tick the relevant box on the survey. If you have requested to take part in the World Café, you will be contacted again by The Fifth Sector to invite you the meeting, subject to availability.
