Puppy Application 4/2018 Logo
  • Welcome to our Aamurusko Finnish Lapphunds

    Puppy Application
  • Thank for completing this application! At first glance, you might thing "wow, this is a little long - are all these questions really necessary?" We adore our dogs, and we want our puppies to go families who are the best match for them. Every family is different, and there are no right or wrong answers. We know many families have working adults and we don't expect anyone to be a superhero and quit a day job just to be able to take home a puppy. That said, we are interested in families who will treat their puppies as part of the family - with plenty of enrichment, training, and love.

Every puppy family has different needs, and this application helps us to match puppies to families that suit them. If you're a veteran Finnish Lapphund owner, we don't want to waste your time regaling things you already know; by the same token, if this is your first puppy or first Finnish Lapphund, we want to make sure you leave prepared for what life with a puppy may bring. Before submitting an expresion of interest, please have a read of our upcoming litter information, especially details about the temperaments of both parents.

At this time we will only be considering first time lappie owners from NSW, VIC, and the ACT, so that we can provide you with ongoing support. Families who have previously owned Lappies in SA and WA are also welcome to apply. Although some lappies cope well with the heat in northern states/areas, we find ours prefer a cooler climate with less humidity to live their best lives (hence the geographical preferences).

Once we have received an application, we will do our best to get back to you within a few days. If we think you will be a good fit for one of our puppies, we will arrange a time for a video call to have a more thorough chat, and so you can meet our dogs if you haven't already (if you're local to Canberra you are welcome to stop by our house instead up to/before a week to go until our mother dog's due date). After this, we will let you know ASAP.

If the number of suitable applicants exceeds the number of puppies available, we will create a waitlist. Sometimes circumstances of families change, we just ask you let us know ASAP if that is the case.

Please don't take it personally if we don't offer you a puppy. It may be that we think a slightly different temperament than what are in our lines may suit you. We can also put you in touch with other breeders who may have available puppies.

Please let us know if you have already applied, or are planning to apply for a puppy with another breeder - noting we are in touch with most Australian breeders and don't want to create a confusing or awkward situation for anyone involved.

    • Expressions of interest for Sanna's early 2026 litter are being taken. We won't know numbers of puppies until mid January when she has her ultrasound, and we of course won't know colours and genders until after they are born. We expect classic black and tans with bright markings, with a small possibility of brown and tans or creams.

As the puppies develop over their 8 weeks with us, we will have a better idea of their temperaments, and whether or not they may be show prospects. Therefore we generally make puppy allocations to successful families at around 6-7 weeks of age based on your gender preferences and the temperaments of the puppies. We will be looking for one or two guardian homes. Sanna's first litter produced exceptional puppies and we would expect some show prospects from this litter too.

Families are welcome to visit from 4 weeks of age, and are welcome to Facetime with the puppies prior. Our preference would be for families to collect puppies in person, but transport can be arranged with a trusted pet transporter we have used previously for interstate families.

Puppies would be ready for their new homes around mid April 2026. Unfortunately due to work demands we are unable to hold puppies at home for more than a week or two after this.

    • About Puppy's New Family
    • This is where we find out a little more about the puppy's new home and family. Please remember there is no "right" or "wrong" answer. This is just a way to get to know you!

If families have another entire dog that is ok, but we will only consider placing a puppy of the same sex with that family as accidents can happen with even the most responsible of owners.

We may also have one or two guardian homes available, for special puppies we hope to include in our future breeding program. These arrangements are commonplace amongst breeders, and are generally reserved for the most promising puppies in each litter. Breeders will often place puppies in guardian homes in order to keep their numbers at home low, and to ensure each dog has plenty of undivided attention. Please contact us for more information.

    • Please tell us a little about where puppy will live as a puppy (we know circumstances may change).

    • Ownership Commitment
    • This is where we want to make sure we are all on the same page. Puppies will be sold on mains register if they are likely to be show prospects, but will not be sold with breeding rights. This is to protect and preserve the breed. Puppies that are not looking like show prospects will be placed on limited register, meaning they cannot be bred or shown, but can still participate in any ANKC dog sports or activities. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns!

    • What to expect
    • Completing this application is the first step in the process of welcoming an Aamurusko puppy, but does not guarantee a puppy will be given to you. We only breed small number of puppies. While unlikely, we reserve the right to refuse any puppy placement at any time.

Approvals will be processed as soon as possible. I will be working full time until the week before the puppies are due, and am often with patients or in meetings during the day, therefore will not always be able to answer immediately. For the same reason, email or texts in the first instance are always preferred.

Contracts - puppies will go out on contracts formalising our mutual expectations on matters such as desexing, breeding rights, obligations if a puppy needs to be returned, etc. We believe our contracts are fair, professional, and protect both parties, as well as the breed. Contracts will be sent at the time payments are due (prior to leaving our home), and puppies will not leave us without a signed contract.

Microchips - will be completed prior to puppies leaving us, and we will provide you with details on how to update the microchip with your details. This is of vital importance as the information on the microchip is used to reunite lost dogs with owners.

ANKC registration - all puppies will be registered with the ANKC on either limited or mains register. You will be provided with their papers when available.

Puppies will come with a puppy pack including a few essentials, and all health/DNA information from both parents.
