  • We are delighted to offer a one-year artist residency in the Centre for Creative Explorations which is based in the art department at Harris Girls' Academy East Dulwich.

The aims of the CCE are to promote creative activism through feminist sensory researching practices. We are looking for artists who want to explore their practice in innovative ways within the school context that has young people at the heart of their practice (Please see previous projects on the website for an idea of the kind of socially engaged projects we are interested in).

The residency will run from January 2025 and end in December 2025.

The successful applicant will have a lockable studio space within the art department and access to the studio up to 6pm weekdays as well as Saturdays during the day.

There will not be a rental cost for the studio space as the CCE@HGAED wants to support emerging artists and innovative practices.

In return for the studio space, the successful applicant will offer interesting interventions in the CCE and art curriculum. The applicant will outline their vision of how this collaborative relationship could work, what they would like to offer to the CCE and what support they would need in return.

Possible areas include but are not limited to: creative research projects, workshops, technical support, lectures, exhibitions and after school clubs, however, we are open to any creative and innovative suggestions that fit with our ethos and relate to the context of Harris Girls Academy East Dulwich. Outreach into the community is one of our main aims and this would need to be reflected in the statement of intent.

Please note, we are looking for collaborative, open ended projects that situate the student at the heart of the researching process. We will not except design briefs that need to be tested through field work.

Please be as detailed as possible in your response to this and look at previous years residencies on the CCE website. The terms will be agreed in advance of the residency and are negotiable. Also please read the terms and conditions thoroughly before applying.

The residency will be dependant on the artist gaining DBS, which can be completed through the school. The successful applicant will also need to complete safe guarding training at the school before the start of the resedincy.

We will invite shortlisted applicants to an interview the following week in December, however if you have any questions, would like to visit the school to have a look around the studio space prior to application, then please contact me via email.

The Centre for Creative Explorations promotes creative activism through feminist sensory researching practices. We are looking for artists/designers/creative practitioners who want to explore their practice in innovative ways within the secondary educational context. We are looking for practitioners who are interested in collaborative practice, working with students and the CCE. We are looking for open ended, innovative projects rather than a design brief. In return the artist/designer/creative practitioner will have the opportunity to work in the vibrant and exciting context of secondary education, a space that challenges you to think creatively and pushes you to experience the world from multiple perspectives.
