NC Underground – Spring Choreographer Showcase

Thank you for your interest in participating in the NC Underground Spring Choreographer Showcase, a signature NC Underground event that has been uplifting and connecting the North Carolina dance community since 2011.

This annual showcase brings together choreographers, studios, and dance teams from across the state to celebrate creativity, artistry, and cultural connection through dance.

The showcase is designed to:

Provide a professional performance platform for choreographers and their dancers
Foster collaboration, networking, and unity across the NC dance community
Highlight diverse styles, voices, and creative voices
The event will take place on Saturday, March 28 at 7:00 PM in Durham, NC. The exact venue will be announced no later than four weeks prior to the show. The entire showcase will be professionally filmed, and each participating choreographer will receive a complimentary video copy of their work.

Participation & Performance Guidelines
Each choreographer may present up to three (3) pieces, with a total combined time limit of 10 minutes.

This means:

The 10-minute limit applies to all pieces combined, not per piece
Whether submitting one, two, or three works, the total stage time may not exceed 10 minutes
Choreography style, concept, and artistic direction are at the discretion of the choreographer, provided all material remains appropriate for a public, all-ages audience.

Music & Content Standards
To maintain a professional and family-friendly environment:

All music must be clean (no profanity or explicit language)
Content must be appropriate for audiences ages 0–adult
Any music containing explicit or suggestive language will not be approved

Costume & Attire Standards
All costuming must be appropriate for a public, multi-age audience and professional stage setting.

This includes:

No lingerie-style outfits
No exposed cheeks, excessive cut-outs, or sheer garments that reveal undergarments
Costumes should be secure, performance-appropriate, and respectful of the venue and audience
NC Underground reserves the right to request changes to costumes that do not meet these standards.

Tech & Rehearsal Schedule – Saturday, March 28
All choreographers and dancers are required to attend.

Stage Tech Rehearsals (staggered): 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Each group will be assigned a specific time slot for spacing, lighting, and music cues.
Full Dress Rehearsal (all groups): 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Final call times and rehearsal schedules will be sent after applications close.

Friday, February 27

Space is limited.Selected choreographers will be notified after the deadline.
