This season, Met Opera Education resumes its Opera Book Club for students and educators participating in the HD Live in Schools program.
Our fall selection is Michael Cunningham's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Hours (1998), the basis of both its Oscar-winning film adaptation and Kevin Puts's new opera.
This three-week exploration of Cunningham’s novel will take place each Thursday from December 1 through December 15 bookending the Live in HD screening on December 10. Each week, we’ll focus on one section of the book.
Our meetings will take place on YouTube Live and include virtual conversations with members of the opera’s creative team—including librettist and playwright Greg Pierce—as well as experts on the life and work of Virginia Woolf. Participating students will be able to submit questions for featured speakers.
The Met will provide up to 30 copies of The Hours to each district.
We are excited to offer your students a new point of connection to the world of opera!
This club, like all Met educational programs, is not mandatory and may be enjoyed completely à la carte.
