The Braunfels Foundation Trust (BFT) is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization founded in 1974 in New Braunfels, Texas. Its goal is to award First Step Career Tech Scholarships each year to local high school seniors interested in pursuing career and technical education (CTE) training and certification for their career.
The First Step Career Tech Scholarship is $2,500 and may be awarded to students who are entering career and technical education at community colleges, technical training institutions, or vocational training programs.
Scholarship Eligibility
Applicants must be a high school senior living in the attendance zones of either the Comal ISD or New Braunfels ISD who are seeking training and certification in a CTE related career or a two (2) year Associates Degree for an entry level job in a CTE related career.
Some CTE career examples include, but are not limited to the following vocations and technology trades:
- HVAC Technician
- Diesel Technician
- Electrician
- Cyber Security
- Dental Technician
- Automotive Technician
- Welder
- Plumber
- Dental Hygenist
- Automotive Mechanic
- Radiologic and MRI Technologist
- Drafters

Application Instructions
Complete the on-line Braunfels Foundation Trust First Step Career Tech Application for the 2024-2025 academic year. Other applications will not be accepted.
Deadline to apply is Thursday, March 5, 2026.
- Fill-out all required fields.
- Attach two (2) letters of reference.
- Attach one (1) copy of your high school transcript.
- Attach one (1) single-page personal statement specific to this scholarship describing the CTE caeer you plan to attain and why you should be considered for this scholarship (limited to 1 page).
If you are awarded a scholarship, please plan to attend the BFT Scholarship Reception and Awards Ceremony in your honor at the McKenna Event Center Ballroom on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 6:00 P.M. to receive your award.
