  • This quiz is a "learning questionnaire"....

    ..where you can

    • voice your concerns about burnout
    • scope your understanding of burnout in general
    • begin the process of facing burnout
    • start building the foundation upon which burnout can reverse
    • learn few burnout facts to dispel the many misconceptions surrounding burnout.

You may use the form for your own learning and leave near the end without sharing your email. The best way to start burnout reversal however is to share the form with the geese to get more resources and support. Either way you will have made a step forwards in understanding burnout.

  • Many people use the terms stress and burnout interchangeably. However this is a fundamental mistake - and one that actually holds back the resolution of burnout. They are different conditions - yet related.

Burnout arises from "longstanding severe stress which has been not been addressed". It involves a slow yet also non linear shift from stress to burnout which makes it hard to notice. Certain anatomical ( in the brain) and physiological ( hormonal) changes occur which eventually bring a host of new problems.

The World Health Organisation classified burnout (in 2019) as a "psychological syndrome" or "occupational phenomenon". Current research suggests this is now a very out of date perspective. We think it is closer to an entirely predictable set of changes in the body and mind following unrelenting and unaddressed stress. Yes there are many psychological aspects to burnout - but this is true for any health concern.

Burnout is thus not classified strictly a medical or mental health condition but if left to fester long enough can easily result in physical problems such as gastritis or recurrent infections and mental health issues such as anxiety or depression.

So burnout is quite complex and is definitely NOT just stress.

  • Burnout "might" respond to any of these but the reality is that unless the right mix is applied in the right amounts at the right time with the right support to steer things ahead - each of these may be completely ineffective and can easily make burnout worse or force it underground. The result - a feeling like "nothing has worked" and that burnout has somehow to be accepted.

People often try many other things to combat burnout too including, changing job (or even career),  doing more exercise, taking more holidays. Even worse - every man and his dog thinks they are experts in burnout and have a "remedy" they think you should be applying - from "go to bed earlier if you are tired" to  "change your mattress".

However NONE of this works longer term. It just all keeps burnout in a "holding position"... the burnout just keeps following the person around.

Instead of throwing everthing but the kitchen sink at burnout - the geese apply a steady incremental approach building up a sturdy foundation before attempting the next phase... and via a bespoke and expert led system.

  • The previous question ( and the next) are designed to help you scope out ... and face... how burnout is impacting upon your life. This can be hard to do but is an essential stage in getting to zero burnout.

If you are taking the trouble to fill in a burnout quiz when you feel so weary - you must have an inkling that it might be time to address burnout.

You may well have tried umpteen things to try and fix it and if you still have burnout this can easily bring disillusion.

But we know that burnout is reversible - it is possible to go from exhausted, not sleeping, not enjoying work ... back to life in better balance, work feeling sustainable and overall enthusiasm high once again.

What achieves this is unique to each individual yet for all it involves coordinating

    - the right things

    - at the right time

    - in the right order

    - with the right support

    - learning what burnout really is and is not

  • "Time is being wasted in burnout"

Every day that goes by stuck in burnout is time wasted. Life is passing in a blur and without normal enjoyment of the things you used to love.

The good news is - we only need ONE of the hours you are currently spending each week moaning about burnout (or trying unsuccessfully to fix it) to be reallocated to working with the geese.  One hour a week can make an impact on burnout and can begin turning the burnout tanker.

Whether you are on sick leave already, need some help to justify/secure sick leave or feel you have no realistic chance of sick leave - one hour a week can begin the journey.

Imagine what you could do with all that wasted time back but in full productive energy mode?
