The answers to the 4 questions
on our home page
There are short answers to these and there are longer ones that delve into more details. Here are the short ones. The longer ones we cover in our learning programmes.
1 Why is burnout so hard to shift
A: It is a complex condition with muliple causes, multiple effects and multiple solutions and so each person has a cocktal very specific to them. This is why common "advice" doled out for burnout can not work. This helps to make it hard to shift.
2 How long does burnout last?
It depends on many factors such as - how long it has been there, how many times, how bad it is and how much support is available from work and home - to name but a few. So it is not possible to state this accurately until we speak to you. But from 3 months to 2 years ( for complete reversal) is the range. However people start to feel reassured and see things begin to slowly shift pretty early on in our programmes ( ie within weeks).
3 How do i get burnout to stop?
There is a wide choice of possible ways to "attempt" to stop it but many do not work. The best way we know to stop burnout is to seek support and to learn a lot more about burnout from experts ( and not from the many internet sites written by bloggers or ex burnout sufferers as they are not experts).
4 Why do my holidays not help burnout?
This is because the changes to the brain/body/hormones etc that occur in burnout do not reverse over short periods. Holidays help stress but generally do not help burnout at all. A holiday for a burnt out person is usually a huge effort, they spend most of it exhausted and then dread return only to find the burnout is back pretty fast ( if indeed it ever went away). And of course the conditions that caused the burnout are in fact all still there.
