The J. Frank and Joan Uhl Pierce Transcultural Nursing Award

An award of $1,000.00 will be made to a selected nurse who reflects the knowledge
and understanding of the requirement for all nurses to promote and incorporate cultural
competent care into practice in any health care setting.

To be eligible for this award, the applicant will:

1. Show evidence of current active membership of the TCN Society.  
2. Show evidence of current licensure as a Registered Nurse (or its international
   equivalent).
3. Submit a paper describing the components of culturally competent care and how
4. this has been integrated successfully into practice in any healthcare setting.
5. Present the paper at a regional or national TCNS conference within two years of
   receiving the award.
   OR
6. Provide evidence-based findings of the success of integrating culturally competent
   care and report these data as a paper for submission and review for publication by
   the Journal of Transcultural Nursing.

For the Journal article, please follow the “Manuscript Submission Information for
Authors” found on the TCNS Web Page under the Journal of Transcultural Nursing.

For the paper please follow these instructions:

Papers should be prepared in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Publication
Manual of the American Psychological Association, the current edition. Manuscripts, including
abstracts and references should be double-spaced, using 12 font type, left justified margins, and one-inch margins on all sides. The manuscript title page should include the author(s) name(s) and complete contact information. A short heading and page number should be typed on each page. Manuscripts should not exceed 17 pages, excluding references, tables, and figures. Each table, figure, graph, etc. should have its relative placement noted within the text. Tables should be typed one to a page with any notes/legends typed on the same page. Tables should be numbered, titled, typed double-spaced, tab delineated, and without using lines. Label each figure with its number and legend. All tables, figures, graphs, and drawings should follow the reference list, and not be placed within the text.

Please submit your paper, required documentation, and application form electronically by August 15th of the current year.

An independent award committee reviews all submissions.  All decisions are final.  The result will be communicated to you once the process has been completed.  This generally happens wintin three months of the submission following the application deadline.
