We the undersigned; freelancers who contribute to The Australian Financial Review, The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, Brisbane Times and WA Today, and their supporters, value the actions of Nine Management in establishing a freelance agreement.
An agreement that sets out the standards of engagement of freelancers at Nine is an enormous step in the right direction and we think that your proposal has a lot of great strengths.
Despite this, the quality journalism that Nine's esteemed mastheads require demands fair standards for the people that produce it. We are seeking a minimum rate of $1 per word that increases annually, and for payments to occur on acceptance, not on publication.
We look forward to continuing to work with Nine in a positive way in developing a fair and transparent freelance policy that benefits all.
