About the Program:
Outdoor Explorers focuses on nature exploration, song, story, and movement. It has been running as a fully-outdoor program in local Ames parks since September.
The November-December session will start on Monday, November 7, and run for 5 weeks, ending on Wednesday December 7.
The days and times are Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:15-2:30 p.m.
Sign up for the individual days you would like your child to attend.
Teacher: Miss Caeli
Location: Carr Park
For days when it is too cold to be outside for 2 hours, backup locations will be used -- see more below.
What to Expect:
A typical day for the program may look like:
- 12:15-12:25 p.m. -- Drop-off and free play
- 12:25-12:50 p.m. -- Circle time, song and movement
- 12:50-1:50 p.m. -- Nature exploration, free play and optional movement activity (such as games or guided nature activity)
- 1:50-2 p.m. -- Storytime (the story will relate to the season, and will be read in our exploration space)
- 2-2:20 p.m. -- Free play and nature exploration
- 2:20-2:30 p.m. -- Prepare for pick-up and goodbyes
One session out of eight, we will dedicate time from 1:40-2:30 p.m. for a simple nature-related craft.
Enrollment Details:
Enrollment for this session is by the day, with a cost of $16 per day. Sign up upfront for which days you want to attend.
We'll send invoices by email, and payment will be due by the first program day of the session that your child attends.
A note on missed days: Please note that if you miss a day that you've signed up for and paid for, that missed day is non-refundable.
Inclement weather: if the weather is 30 degrees or colder (factoring in windchill), the program will move to either McFarland Park or Ames Public Library for the day. Caeli will text parents the day of if this is the case. On those days, the group may go play outside (if at the library, will go to Bandshell Park) for an hour or less of the program time and then go inside to warm up (if at McFarland Park, will warm up in the Story County Conservation Center).
The program will be cancelled in alignment with if Ames Community School District issues a cancellation/late start/early out for the day. In this case, we will issue a refund for the day.
A note on toileting: With the restrooms in Ames parks closed for the season, Caeli will have on hand a travel-sized child potty for the children to use, if needed.
