Accessibility Professionals Association
Certification Exam in the Built Environment
An individual who passes the APAC-BE Exam will have demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Accessibility Requirements and the Model Codes and Standards and how each applies to the built environment. APAC-BEs will be able to interpret scoping requirements for any given facility.
Before submitting this application, be sure that you are eligible to sit for the exam:
Education and Professional Experience
- Option 1: Professional degree/license (architecture, engineering, interior design, landscape architecture, or equivalent) and one year of accessibility experience related to building planning, design, review, inspection, consultation, or equivalent
- Option 2: Four years’ accessibility experience related to building planning, design, review, inspection, consultation, or equivalent
- Option 3: Accessibility certification (e.g., ICC, state certification, ADAC) and two years’ accessibility experience related to building planning, design, review, inspection, consultation, or equivalent
Your application will be reviewed by the APAC Board. No one outside of the APAC Board and APAC management will see this application. When approved, you will receive instructions for the exam sitting and will be eligible for a two-year period. You will have the choice of taking the exam through a Pearson VUE testing center or through OnVUE online proctoring, or you may take the in-person exam at the next conference where it is offered.
