A Facilitated IEP (FIEP) is an option available at the request of schools or parents/guardians for conflict prevention and resolution. This service is provided at no cost. A trained impartial professionally trained facilitator helps the case conference committee with the IEP process by keeping the meeting focused on the student, ensuring everyone at the table has a voice, encouraging active listening by all participants, helping keep team members on task and within the time allotted for the meeting, and participating as a non-committee member, which does not impose decisions on the group.
Either the parent/guardian or school corporation may initiate the facilitated IEP process by completing this form and it will be submitted to the Office of Special Education. However, both parties must agree to the IEP facilitation in order for the process to take place. If the request meets the criteria, both parties will be contacted. The Office of Special Education team will send the request to Indiana IEP TA Center. Indiana IEP TA Center will contact all parties and assign a facilitator for the case conference. In addition to this request, parties must also complete the IEP TA Center Print & Fax form. That form can be retrieved by using this link: https://www.iepta.org/images/downloads/FIEP/2023FIEPRequestForm.docx. Submit this request at least two weeks prior to the anticipated date of the case conference. For more information, please contact The Office of Special Education: spedassistance@doe.in.gov.
