  • 0/300
  • Role Preferences

  • Before becoming a coordinator for the first time, you may need to conduct an interview with our executive team. All interviews will be run a week after program registrations and you will be contacted before then to book in a time that suits you. After a successful application, you will be provided with training to get you ready for program.

An unsuccessful coordinator interview does not disqualify you from attending our programs as a tutor or mentor.

  • Training Dates

Attending training sessions is a compulsory component of registering for a program, as we want to ensure the highest quality program for our partner schools and the students we work with. Please let us know below if you are unavailable for any of these dates. While we endeavour to be flexible, volunteers who are unable to attend training may not be eligible to participate in the program.
  • Volunteer Status

  • As a new volunteer or someone who has taken an extended break, you will be required to attend a general training session before being elligble to attend one of our programs. This training session introduces you to TLG and prepares you for the core components of our program.

Please email hello-wa@teachlearngrow.org.au if you have any issue with attending any of these dates.

  • In addition to a general training session, you are required to attend an interactive training day (ITD).

ITD sessions are flexible workshops that cater to the experiences and skills of the volunteers present on the day, to ensure that every volunteer accesses training relevant to their prior knowledge and skills they desire to develop. Training will range in focus from the foundation skills required for tutoring such as how to lesson plan, tutor various maths concepts and tutor a student one-on-one to engage students and minimise challenging behaviours.

Please email hello-wa@teachlearngrow.org.au if you have an issue with attending any of these dates.

Opt Out: You may choose to opt out of ITD if you fit any of the below requirements.

Completed (minimum) four weeks of placement as an Education student
Completed a signficant amount of tutoring, to the Education Team's discretion

Education Support Officer (ESO) - The ESO is an education student/past education student who is the main port of call for any education related questions that your fellow tutors may have on the program. First Aid Officer (FAO) - The FAO is a volunteer with basic first aid qualifications who will assist with any medical issues which arise on the program working closely with your coordinators. You will be provided with a first aid kit and it will be your role to ensure it is with your volunteer group at all times.

  • School Preference

  • School Preference

TLG travels to dozens of schools across the state. If you have a preference to travel to a particular school or region, please include this in the box below, along with the reasons for your choice below.

Please note that we will do our best to accommodate your preference but there is no guarantee you will be placed at your requested school.

  • Accommodation

For most Rural Programs, volunteers will be accommodated in the same room as all the other volunteers at your school, usually in camping style accommodation (such as mattresses and sleeping bags).

If this is not appropriate for you (for example for medical or cultural reasons), please email hello-wa@teachlearngrow.org.au as soon as possible after submitting this form so we can try to make alternative arrangements for you.

Please be aware that we endeavour to accommodate volunteer needs, alternative arrangements are not always possible and we may not be able to offer you a volunteer position that meets your preference.

    Travel

For most Rural Programs, volunteers will be transported to schools via car, train, bus and/or aeroplane. Some trips to remote communities take 1-2 days. If you have limitations on your ability to use a particular form of transport, please email hello-wa@teachlearngrow.org.au as soon as possible after submitting this form so we can try to make alternative arrangements for you.

  • Program Agreement

  • Program Deposit charge.

Your commitment to our programs is important to us and perhaps more significantly, it is important to the students we work with. Prior to accepting a place in the program, you will be asked to provide payment details for a deposit.

The deposit exists to ensure your commitment to the program, as well as to mitigate the significant financial and labour costs incurred due to unexpected volunteer withdrawals, volunteer absences, or failure to complete key volunteer tasks. These occurrences limit TLG's capacity to deliver a positive impact to students in need.

The circumstances in which your deposit would not be refunded to you include but are not limited to: late cancellation of your program attendance, failure to attend compulsory training, breaching TLG policy or procedure, or failure to return TLG property.

You would not be charged if you provide evidence of significant extenuating circumstances and let us know as soon as possible.

If financial hardship will prevent you from transferring the deposit, an alternative payment plan will be provided.

  • Policies and Procedures

Your volunteer role with TLG is governed by a range of policies and procedures, which will be provided to you throughout the training process. If at any time you are unsure of how to act in accordance with these policies and procedures, you must speak to a direct supervisor as soon as possible.

You will be required to complete a quiz to demonstrate your understanding of TLG policies and procedures prior to the commencement of the program.

  • Volunteer Agreement

  • Preamble

  • This agreement is for volunteers (including Tutors and Coordinators) of Teach Learn Grow Inc. (hereafter referred to as ‘TLG’), and includes the standards of conduct upon which are expected. This agreement is made and takes effect as of the date of assent between TLG and the volunteer.

  • Tenure

  • The following agreement between TLG and the volunteer commences on the date of signage and remains in place for six months. This term may be altered with the consent of the TLG Executive if this is based on reasonable grounds.

  • What TLG asks of its volunteers

  • During the term of this agreement we ask that you:

    1. Devote the time, effort, skill and attention reasonably required in order to perform the duties required by your specific role in a manner consistent with the TLG Code of Conduct and any rules outlined by the School you volunteer at.

    2. Not wilfully damage any property of TLG or the property of other volunteers such as first aid kits, internet modems, or laptops. If damage occurs to TLG property, wilfully or accidentally, the volunteer will be liable to pay the cost to replace the damaged goods. The cost will be charged to the volunteer’s account after completion of the Rural Program.

    3. Not act as an agent, broker, shareholder, or otherwise engage in any business providing similar services to those supplied by TLG in such a manner that detriments TLG during the term of this agreement with TLG and for an 18-month period following its termination.

    4. Use any of TLG's brand, materials, intellectual property or any other property only for the purpose of your role and only with explicit permission in writing from the Chief Operating Officer of TLG. You are also barred from starting up any enterprise which competes with the activities of TLG.

    5. Promptly disclose and presently assign to TLG all existing and future Intellectual Property Rights in any materials generated, discovered, invented, improved or developed by the Volunteer in the course of their role, whether alone or with others and whether during school hours or otherwise.

    6. Provide TLG with their credit card details, whereupon the volunteer will be charged up to an amount of $50 or $100 for Coordinators and Tutors respectively, in the occasion of suspected violation of TLG’s Policy, Code of Conduct or Volunteer Agreement. The volunteer’s account may also be charged in the case where property is damaged by the volunteer, as stated in clause 2, or in cases of policy breaches, as stated in clause 20. In the circumstances of illness or extenuating circumstances, where appropriate evidence is provided and the cause in mention is deemed reasonably significant by TLG, the volunteer will not be charged. If it is deemed that the volunteer has violated TLG’s Policy, Code of Conduct, Volunteer Agreement or has damaged TLG property, the volunteer will be notified via email. The volunteer will then have 7 days to ensure they have sufficient funds in their account, or appeal the decision to the Chief Operating Officer.

    7. Provide TLG with the number of their concession SmartRider or be charged a $50 payment for the transport to and from the Rural Program which will be charged to the volunteer's credit card after the completion of the Rural Program. Any transport not arranged by the TLG Transport Officer will be at the volunteer’s expense and will not be covered by TLG insurance.

    8. Provide TLG with a copy of their valid Working with Children Check Card or a receipt for the application of a Working with Children Check. The Working with Children Check Card provided must be valid otherwise the volunteer is required to apply for a new one before being allowed to volunteer for TLG.

    9. Notify TLG if they cancel their Working with Children Check Card or their application for a Working with Children Check Card.

    10. Carry their Working with Children Check Card or a receipt for the application of one during any volunteering activities involving children or students.

Provide sleeping materials and clothing for the duration of the trip. TLG will provide a TLG t-shirt after the Volunteer has provided TLG with the details of their account. The Volunteer will not be charged for the first shirt. If the Volunteer chooses to purchase an additional TLG t-shirt, the Volunteer will be charged when TLG receives the Coordinator or Tutor Acceptance Agreement.

Refrain from taking photographs of any students at Schools participating in the Rural Program unless granted permission by the Chief Operating Officer and media release forms have been attained. Photographs of any student without a media release form signed by the student’s parent will not be stored or used by TLG or any representative of TLG, and may only be used by the school visited. Photographs taken of students whose parents have signed a media release form may also be used by TLG and its sponsors, for marketing/promotional purposes only.

    11. Act in a manner which displays an appropriate duty of care to any students or fellow volunteers which are under your care and supervision at that time, or towards any students which are temporarily in the absence of school staff.

    12. Attend compulsory training sessions mandated by TLG, unless an extenuating circumstance leave is granted.

    13. Wear proper protection from the sun while outside, including sunscreen lotion and sunhat, unless there is a medical direction otherwise.

    14. Provide TLG with accurate feedback or information related to the Rural Program following its conclusion if required and disclose any known breaches of Policy by fellow volunteers.

    16. Comply with any investigations concerning their behaviour or other volunteers who have been alleged to have violated the TLG Volunteer Agreement, Code of Conduct or Policies. If the volunteer refuses to cooperate with regards to allegations against them, they may be suspended from any future involvement with TLG.

    17. Comply with all of TLG's policies as stated in the Policy Manual. Any breaches of policy will result in a Level 1 warning, consequent breaches or those of a significant nature as determined by the relevant TLG executives will result in a Level 2 warning, and subsequent breaches may involve suspension of the volunteer from further involvement in TLG. TLG also reserves the right to suspend volunteers indefinitely from further involvement immediately if a serious policy breach is committed.

In signing this agreement, the volunteer also gives permission for TLG to use any images or videos performing TLG related tasks in media releases. This includes social media such as Facebook, as well as conventional media sources and reports.

Also, in signing this agreement, the volunteer accepts that their personal information will be kept on hand for at least 7 years from the date of signature. This information will strictly be used for TLG-related purposes only and will be kept confidential unless disclosure is required by law.
