    Dear Montessori Adult Learner,

    Welcome to the beginning of your Montessori teacher preparation program! You have chosen a very important and rewarding profession - a career in which you can make a very real difference in the lives of children and their families.

    MITEE is currently a candidate in good standing with the American Montessori Society and the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) and is certified by the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC Our Montessori Credential program begins with an Academic Phase (blended online + residency After completing your academic phase, you will begin your nine-month Practicum/student teaching phase beginning in the fall of 2023. The successful adult learner concludes the Montessori Institute of Teacher Education at Endeavor

    This application serves as a reference for completing your application for consideration of the American Montessori Society's credential. Please read through it thoroughly.     The child should love everything that he learns, for his mental and emotional growth are linked. Whatever is presented to him must be made beautiful and clear, striking his imagination. Once this love has been kindled, all problems confronting the educationalist will disappear.

    Montessori Institute of Teacher Education at Endeavor (MITEE) is offers the following four credentials:

    INFANT & TODDLER (BIRTH THROUGH 3-YEAR OLDS)

    Infant & Toddler Credential for adults with a bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year college; this credential is also awarded to students educated overseas if a credential evaluation finds his/her qualifications equivalent to a 4-year degree from an accredited institution within the US. Associate Infant & Toddler Credential for non-college graduates. Associate Credential candidates are responsible for verifying local regulations to determine qualifications for employment. Associate Credential candidates must sign a statement verifying that they understand that some locations or schools may not accept an Associate credential as the qualification for full teaching responsibility. AMS strongly encourages holders of the Associate Credential to obtain a bachelor's degree within 7 years of credentialing. All Associate applicants must have a high school diploma, GED, or a recognized equivalency certificate.

    EARLY CHILDHOOD (AGES 2.5 THROUGH 6-YEAR OLDS)

    Early Childhood Credential for adults with a bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year college; this credential is also awarded to students educated overseas if a credential evaluation finds his/her qualifications equivalent to a 4-year degree from an accredited institution within the US. Associate Early Childhood Credential for non-college graduates. Associate Credential candidates are responsible for verifying local regulations to determine qualifications for employment. Admissions Process As long as there are openings remaining, applications for enrollment are accepted at any time before two weeks before the first day of classes. However, space is limited, so we encourage you to complete your application as soon as possible to ensure a spot in our upcoming cohort of adult learners. Following the completion and receipt of the application and application fee, the following items are required to be submitted for the full application to be considered complete: I. Official Transcript a.Transcript for B.A. or B.S. degree or higher. (Evaluation by a NACES member service is required of degrees granted outside the United States.*) b. OR a high school or GED diploma (for AMS Associate Credential) 2. Three professional letters of recommendation (preferably a combination of academic and professional) 3. Personal statement of purpose for attending the Montessori Teaching Credential program Based upon the documents submitted and the discussions with the applicant, MITEE determines the applicant's ability to benefit from the course, commitment to the profession, academic preparation, and feasibility of

    successful completion. MITEE will notify the applicant of their admission decision of the final submission of all required admissions documents. Applicants must be at least 18 years old to enroll in MITEE. *Applicants who do not have a diploma or credential from a regionally accredited US College/University must submit a transcript to a recognized US credentialing agency (e.g., a credentialing agency member of NACES the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) for credit equivalency evaluation. If the evaluation determines the non-US transcript to be equivalent to a bachelor's degree or higher in the US. the adult learner will then be eligible for an AMS credential upon successful completion. If the evaluation determines that the non-US transcript is not the equivalent of a bachelor's degree or higher, then an Associate credential will be awarded. If English is not the applicant's first language,a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) may also be required. Program Overview The Infant & Toddler (I&T) and Early Childhood (EC) Credential programs consist of two parts: 1. Academic Phase 2. Practicum Phase (Student teaching)

    The Academic phase consists of 5 months of onlineThe academics portion is a rigorous, classroom learning courses followed by a 2 1/2 week summer residency. Online Learning: (IT) January 3. 2023- May 30. 2023 (EC) January 4, 2023- May 31, 2023 Once a week class meeting during this time AND approximapresentations. This is a demanding and highly 10 hours of classwork weekly.rewarding segment of the MITEE program. Residency: July 6 22, 2023Classes held in residency begin at 8am and end at 5pm with a one-hour lunch break.

    Minimum 3 hours/day. 5 mornings/week in the same classroom for the duration of the 9-month academic year (Sep. 2023 June 2024) (On-site evaluation visits by Field Consultants will be required for candidates engaged in a Supervised Practicum: 3 for Early Childhood and 4 for Infant & Toddler. 4 or more on-site evaluation visits may be required for those involved in a self-directed Practicum

    Celebration of Knowledge/Graduation:June 1. 2024

    The student teaching Practicum provides students a real-world classroom experience under the direct supervision of a qualified Montessori educator at a qualified and accredited Montessori school. Alongside this Practicum, adult learners connect monthly throughout the year to refresh and gain new skills and to come together to discuss the practical applications of what they have learned in their classroom setting.

    For Practicum sites that are outside of a 50-mile radius from MITEE, the cost of transportation and

    lodging (if required) must be assumed by the adult learner. Practicum visits, after the initial visit, may be done virtually if necessary. Tuition payment options are available. Fees do not include required books and supplies, estimated to cost approximately $500. American Montessori Society offers Teacher Education Scholarships for enrolled adult learners.     Location In Residency lectures, demonstrations, and practice sessions will be held at the Atlanta Montessori International School's campus at 1970 Cliff Valley Way NE, Atlanta, GA 30329. A map of the campus will be provided at orientation.

    Transfer Credit Typically, the entire sequence of curriculum components is required to complete the Montessori Teacher Credential program successfully. However, transfer of coursework is permitted when the coursework has been completed at a MACTE accredited Teacher Education program. Documentation is required from the previous institution, along with the courses completed. Experience is not recognized as parallel to the coursework. Thereis no maximum on the number of credits that may be transferred from a MACTE-accredited Teacher Education Program. As required by AMS, MITEE will contact the original program to determine if the adult learner is in good standing, including fulfillment of financial obligations. Housing MITEE has adult learners from out of town who require housing during the summer sessions. Housing is not available through MITEE. Many affordable options are available through short-term rental agencies such as VRBO or Airbnb. While we do not arrange housing, a list can be made available for those that may need it, and we can also help connect adult learners who would like to rent a location together to minimize costs. If you need housing, or if you are a local Atlanta resident interested in hosting an out-of-town student, please get in touch with the MITEE Training Director.

  • Admission for Montessori Teaching Candidate AMS grants the AMS Associate Infant Toddler and Associate Early Childhood Credential when the course graduate has a high school diploma or GED, but not a bachelor's degree. Country, state, and local employment requirements vary widely and change periodically. In addition, employment requirements vary in different types of schools (e.g., private, public/charter, faith-based, and publicly funded In some locations or schools, an Associate Credential may not qualify for full teaching responsibility. Even if it is currently possible to qualify for full teaching responsibility without a bachelor's degree, employment regulations may change. The applicant is responsible for checking specific jurisdictions and schools for particular employment requirements. Applicants for this AMS Montessori Teaching Credential course who do not have a U.S. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college/university or its equivalent must sign a statement verifying that they have received the above information before they are considered for acceptance into this course.
