Exploring In-Person Hybrid Format for OpenEd23
The Open Education Conference Board of Directors is seeking input from the community regarding whether to organize OpenEd23 as an in-person/virtual hybrid event. After sixteen years as an exclusively in-person event, the fully virtual format of the last three years has doubled conference attendance and provided more equitable avenues for engagement. As we explore the possibility of moving back in person, we are committed to working with the community to maintain robust virtual participation.
We would greatly appreciate your input on the questions below concerning your level of interest in in-person attendance and how organizers can design an inclusive hybrid event. Please keep the following in mind:
-
The in-person location would be in the United States and accessible by a major airport (note: we plan to avoid
AB 1887 banned states
).
-
In-person hotel and registration costs would be targeted as close to pre-2020 rates as possible (USD $375-425 earlybird registration, $170-190/night +tax hotel, with some adjustment for inflation).
-
The conference would seek to to center virtual participation and programming along with in-person attendance through a hybrid format.
