The 2023 JR Academy (February 10-22, 2023) is being jointly offered by the International Ocean Discovery Program's U.S. Science Support office (USSSP) and the Ambassadors for STEM Training to Enhance Participation (A-STEP) Program, both funded by the National Science Foundation.
During JR Academy, students will be exposed to and participate in a wide range of Earth and ocean science activities, as well as learning science communication skills and careers, while sailing on and living aboard the JOIDES Resolution.
Eligibility and Student Selection Criteria:
- Must be at least 18 years old and enrolled in or accepted to a U.S. accredited institution of higher learning
- Must be comfortable in a somewhat unpredictable environment
- Must be in generally good health and meet all shipboard medical requirements; please talk to us if you have a specific disability so we can determine if you will be able to sail - the ship is NOT ADA compliant
- Must be able to work in close quarters at sea

If you are selected, travel and expenses to/from the ports of call will be covered. You will need to have a little bit of funds to pay for local transportation/taxis/shuttles and meals in port up front; you will be reimbursed for these after the expedition.
