The LV Students Hospitality Team is focused on making our student ministry a welcoming and engaging environment for all students! Hospitality Team members staff the welcome table on Wednesday nights and for special events, as well as intentionally connect with other new or returning students during Fusion, E 4:2 and special events. Hospitality Team members also serve in various other leadership roles in LV Students, and are encouraged to offer feedback for how the youth group can grow in its hospitality efforts.
LV Student Ministry Hospitality Team Expectations
1. Be a connection point. Be willing to step outside your comfort zone to connect with new students, help them to feel welcome, and help connect them to other people their age.
2. Be present. Commit to being present regularly at Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, special events, and retreats. We are not expecting you to be at every event, but we do ask that you make an effort to be here when you are able.
3. Have a positive, welcoming attitude. Show people that you’re excited to be here and encourage them to be excited, too! Whether you’re interacting with a new student or with regulars, communicate positivity as you shine your light to others.
4. Be flexible. Part of stepping outside your comfort zone means being willing to spend time with students outside your friend groups. Help people, new and regular to feel welcome and included rather than ignored or excluded.
5. Take initiative. If you notice someone sitting by themselves or being more quiet than usual, go out of your way to make them feel included. Don’t expect someone else to do it; instead, take it upon yourself to reach out to them and check in on them!
6. Staff the welcome table. At least once a month, you will be asked to staff the welcome table at Fusion/Special Events/Retreats. This involves welcoming people, showing them you’re glad they’re here, and showing first-time visitors around the space before connecting them with an “off-duty” Hospitality Team member or another trusted student around their age.
7. Be aware of who’s missing. If you notice someone hasn’t been to a Wednesday night or Sunday morning in a while, reach out to them! Let them know you miss seeing them and ask how they’re doing, and that you’d love to see them soon!
8. Be a leader. Encourage others to help make this a space where people feel welcome, accepted, and loved. There are also several opportunities to lead within the student ministry through the Hospitality Team.
