Dear Student:
Taylor Black Cemetery was formed to secure funding for the long-term preservation of this unique cemetery. We are dedicated to restoring, preserving, and maintaining Taylor Black Cemetery, which is in Bull Head Township, Greene County, North Carolina. The Taylor Black Cemetery Committee would like to honor our ancestors by giving back to the community by awarding scholarships to our future generation. We are proud to announce that we will be awarding two scholarships to qualifying full or part-time students who are descendants of those interred in the Taylor Black Cemetery, which is in Greene County, North Carolina.
The following are the procedures to assist in completing the attached scholarship application package:
- Review the Eligibility Requirements and Criteria.
- Complete the enclosed scholarship application, activities page, and essay question.
- Include two letters of recommendation.
- Official transcript and a copy of your SAT/ACT scores.
- Complete the package
- Please take your time and be thorough in your submission.
- Applicants will be notified in May via email.
Applications MUST be submitted no later than February 28, 2023. Incomplete and/or late applications will not be considered.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- The applicant must be a candidate for graduation from a high school or currently attending a 2 year or 4 year college/university
- Acceptance letter from a college/university for Fall of 2023 as a freshman and/or letter from college/university indicating your enrollment
- Be a United States citizen.
- Applicant must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 weighted scale.
- A minimum score of either 900 on the SAT or 19 on the ACT. Include a photocopy of the scores received.
- A completed scholarship application must be submitted no later than February 28, 2023.
In addition to the completed application, applicants must submit the following:
- An official transcript from your high school.
- Two letters of recommendation; one of the letters can be from school officials and one letter must be from an adult who is not an official of the school.
- Attach a recent photo of yourself to the application.
- Submit an essay of 300 to 500 words or video essay at least 2-3 minutes in length.
