  • Do you own or rent?
  • If you rent, do you have your landlord's permission to have a large dog?
  • If you rent, please submit a letter of permission to us at info@adoptagoldennashville from you landlord granting permission for you to foster.  It must include the following:

    Permission to foster a large dog between 50 lbs. - 120 lbs.
    Acknowledge an understanding that a foster dog may destroy property
    Landlord agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Adopt a Golden Nashville and it's representatives from any property damage.

  • YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH FOSTERING

  • Do you fully understand that fostering a dog is not like pet sitting a dog? Foster dogs are in rescue for a reason. Many come in with issues such as: medical issues, behavior issues, and specific needs that the foster is responsible for handling.

  • Have you ever fostered any other breed of dog?
  • Is the whole family in agreement with fostering a rescue Golden?
  • Does anyone in your home have pet allergies?
  • Are you familiar with positive reinforcement training?

  • Have you ever taken obedience training classes with either your current dog, a past dog or foster dog?
  • Are you willing to train your foster Golden basic commands such as sit, down, stay, come, off to prepare them for their future home, seeking guidance on training techniques from AGN if needed?
  • Are you willing to take your foster Golden to obedience training classes that would be paid for by AGN?
  • Would you consider fostering a bonded pair of Goldens who already know and love one another?
  • Part of foster is sometimes having a special needs Golden or Golden recovering from injury, surgery or heartworm treatments. Do you have experience with dogs with special needs or recovering from injury, surgery or heartworm treatments?
  • Do you have experience with dogs with special needs or recovering from injury, surgery or heartworm treatments?

  • Our foster Goldens are not allowed to be outside unsupervised at any time. Is that acceptable to you?
  • Rescued Golden Retrievers have sometimes been in neglectful and/or abusive situations; therefore, may experience difficulty making the transition to a new home. Are you willing to be patient while your foster adjusts to its foster home?
  • We try not to move a foster once it goes into it's foster home. Foster dogs need stability. If the foster Golden has or develops behavioral issues, are you willing to contact AGN for assistance before asking for the foster to be removed?
  • Have you ever used a crate?
  • If no, are you willing to use a crate if it benefits the Golden?
  • Are you aware that many Goldens are thunder and storm phobic?
  • Are you aware that most Goldens are known as "velcro dogs" as they want to be where you are and they crave attention most of the time?
  • Are you aware that Goldens are active and require daily exercise?
  • Are you aware that Goldens shed all year long?
  • Would you be willing to take your foster Golden to a groomer that would be paid for by AGN if needed?
  • The role of the foster is to prepare the foster dog for it's forever family. Are you fully prepared to help a foster Golden heal emotionally and/or physically from their past and set the foundation needed so they are ready for their forever home?
  • Are you willing to make sure there is a AGN ID tag on your foster dog at all times?
  • Are you willing to follow all policies and procedures set forth by AGN for your foster dog?

I/we attest that completion and submission of this application does not guarantee the approval to foster a Golden Retriever. Adopt a Golden Nashville reserves the right to refuse any foster/adoption.
