This is a drop-off class. Ages 5-10. Please meet in the classroom. Come dressed to explore the outdoors. Fee: $5 plus membership or admission to the Garden. If you register for 4 or more Afterschool classes at one time, you can receive a discounted $3 per class price (must be on one registration form).

Can you tell who left these chewed nuts and tracks on the forest floor? Learn about animal tracks and signs in this one hour afterschool class. Weather allowing, we’ll look for animal signs outside in the Garden.
Afterschool: Wolves and Coyotes Jan 11th 4-5 pm
North Carolina’s red wolves are considered one of the most endangered animals in the world! Come learn about wolves and coyotes in this one hour afterschool class. We’ll hear a story and make a life-size wolf track to take home.
Afterschool: Wacky Weather Jan 18th 4-5pm
Lightening, storms, and tornados can be terrifying, but they’re also amazing natural occurrences. In this class we’ll learn how weather forms, conduct three short weather experiments, and make a wind vane to take home.
Afterschool: Fascinating Feathers Jan 25th 4-5 pm
Did you know most birds have over a 1000 feathers? In this class, we’ll learn how feathers formed and how they help birds fly. Plus, we’ll conduct an experiment to explore the different types of feathers.
Afterschool: Insects in Winter Feb. 1st 4-5 pm
Where do all the bees, butterflies, and beetles go in winter? Come find out in this one hour class where we’ll read a story and build an insect craft.
Afterschool: Frog Calls Feb. 8th 4-5 pm
Spring Peeper frogs are one of the first signs of spring and they may be calling already! Learn some common frog calls and play a frog themed game in this one hour afterschool class.
Afterschool: First Spring Sprouts Feb. 15th 4-5 pm
The first wildflowers bloom early as they try to catch the sun before the trees have leaves. In this class we’ll learn about the important role of flowers in helping new plants grow and walk out to the Oak Loop to see if the Trout Lilies are blooming.
Afterschool: Gooey-Gross Science – Dissect It! Lab Feb. 22nd 4-5 pm
Enjoy some gross and gooey science as we dissect jello-like animal models to learn what’s inside frogs, fish, bats, and salamanders.
